Happy Boxing Day!

seancorfield07:12:14

We survived another Christmas 🙂

dharrigan07:12:40

Indeed. This year was the first "proper" christmas with our son being nearly 3, so more cognisant of what is going on. His first "real" presents

dharrigan07:12:49

Sooooo tiring...

seancorfield07:12:56

I bet... We had Xmas dinner with friends since we have no family within 1,000 miles, and my wife spent nearly all of Xmas Eve baking an eggnog cheesecake and a Grand Marnier almond cake since we were tasked with dessert. It was a fun day with our friends, their mum, their brother and his girlfriend, their daughter, her boyfriend, her boyfriend's parents, and the daughter's best friend... so just a small dinner with ten of us! 🙂

seancorfield07:12:03

I've spent most of the holiday break so far excavating fifteen years of "filing" paperwork that had built up in my home office... I can see the desk next to my computer for almost the first time since we moved into this house! :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:

dharrigan07:12:24

having to do dessert is a huge pressure - it has to taste amazing and look great

dharrigan07:12:38

kudo to your wife for undertaking the challenge!

seancorfield07:12:14

Normally they have "themed" xmas dinners. Last year was "dinosaurs and ninjas" so my wife baked a yule log (basically a giant spiced cake roll) and I decorated it as a stegosaurus 🙂

dharrigan07:12:19

so it was a steg-log-saurus?

seancorfield07:12:20

The head and tail are made of Rice Krispies and marshmallow, the rest is all marzipan wrapped around the cake.

dharrigan07:12:31

A work of art 🙂

dharrigan07:12:41

Was it well received?

seancorfield07:12:56

Yeah, folks loved it. The year before it was "Hawaii" so Jay did the Grand Marnier almond cake (soaked in alcohol) and I decorated it with marzipan palm trees and a Santa in a grass skirt doing a hula dance and a pile of marzipan presents wrapped in bows...

seancorfield07:12:53

We didn't decorate this year. But, hey, two desserts so I think we did our bit!

dharrigan07:12:26

Indeed! It's a lot of work! It sounds like your wife (and you enjoys it)!

seancorfield07:12:02

Our friends always have great dinner parties 🙂

dharrigan07:12:14

My wife actually made this Chiffon Cake this year - I think in America it's called Angel Cake?

dharrigan07:12:25

Very light, fluffy texture

seancorfield07:12:44

Yup. Nice. What did you get your boy for xmas?

dharrigan07:12:59

We got him a robot, a toy train and a fruit and vegteable set (that has velcro between the fruit halves that he can cut with a toy wooden knife). He loves the toy train (it's a little corgi-like train) and he loves the fruit and veg set - the robot, not so much (he said he was a bit scared by it).

dharrigan07:12:23

He's always been sorta of obessed by trains

Jcaw10:12:02

kid has good taste

dharrigan07:12:52

And he likes sharing the fruit + veg wooden stuff with us, so good life skills 🙂

seancorfield07:12:57

I was too as a kid. My dad built me a huge train system over a few years when I was pretty young -- although I think he built it more for himself...

dharrigan07:12:32

He definitely doesnt take that from me

dharrigan07:12:23

right now, he's chopping the wooden lemon into two and handing me half

seancorfield07:12:33

Hahaha... cute.

dharrigan07:12:41

which I'm pulling a sour face with, so he's off to get some "honey" to put on to it and give it to me again

seancorfield07:12:58

There's a TV ad over here where two little girls present their mom with some food they made, announcing "Look Mommy! We made you princess toast!" and it looks like jam and Jelly Bean candy on toast... very dangerous when your young kids start "cooking" for you 🙂

seancorfield07:12:25

Oh, and a whole chocolate cake as well in there!

seancorfield07:12:35

And a wedge of cheese?

dharrigan07:12:46

yeah, no - that's banana (in thee parts)

dharrigan07:12:50

quite clever actually

seancorfield07:12:16

That's a very square banana. Must be grown under EU rules! 😆

seancorfield07:12:53

Is the blue thing a fish?

dharrigan07:12:16

yes - and oh, you can see the toy train at top right

seancorfield07:12:35

Ah, yes. Nice and educational, teaching him the names of all the fruit and veg etc. I don't have much sense of how young kids are when they get all that stuff (not having had kids myself and hardly ever being around anyone else's kids).

dharrigan07:12:56

I think, the lesson we try to emphasis (at this juncture) is sharing

dharrigan07:12:02

so it's a useful aid

seancorfield07:12:10

Have fun... It's nearly midnight here in California and my wife went to bed hours ago. I was just making a new release of clj-new before turning in. Catch y'all tomorrow/later today (when it's a regular work day for me!).

dharrigan07:12:33

nice chatting wit you! Speak to soon! night night.

yogidevbear08:12:20

@seancorfield The eggnog cheesecake sounds right up my alley 😋 You and Jay sound like the perfect party guest

Bit of an odd question perhaps, anyone have any advice for an alternative to vector-of in clojurescript land that’s not just int-array? I’ve managed to do a first pass at a straight port of https://github.com/mapbox/delaunator in clojure, it’s ugly as heck atm, but I’ve been wanting a half decent implementation that I can wrap my head around. The only problem is that it uses (vector-of :int) a fair bit as I wanted to stay away from int-array as I’m not as familiar with them so more liable to make mistakes… Now the end goal is to get it into cljc compatible format at reasonable speed, it appears to be ok performance wise, but I want to do a few tests comparing input/output to the original mapbox lib to sanity check I’ve not forgotten anything/doing anything doh-worthy… Any suggestions? I’m popping off, but I’ll keep an eye on the thread =)…

dominicm17:12:00

Just use a vector

dominicm17:12:19

They don't make sense in clojurescript really.

dominicm17:12:48

I've spent today setting up my desktop computer that's hardly been used for years. It's forced me to review my dotfiles again, so I've spent a bunch of time digging stuff out. I've installed void Linux into it, which matches my aesthetic perfectly.

folcon23:12:46

A valid point =)…
