There's something very ephemeral about our work. I feel like I've wasted my morning, despite having written some code that I think is quite interesting. It doesn't feel very concrete.
Personally I spend time in nature and do some concrete manual work. If we let only our minds build this world it will become cold and metallic, basically dead, the danger is real. Technology, computing, and especially AI, should never become a substitute to directly experiencing and living in the world.
morning... packing this morning as I am getting the train to the big smoke later tonight. 🚅
There's something very ephemeral about our workthat's a strong point of Clojure; there's alot more thinking than typing Until you lose your train of though, and a few hours work goes up in smoke
whereas Java you'd just start typing, and let your muscle-memory fill in the design work...
@dharrigan Near Code Node... there is a travellodge around the corner.
Actually there is more then 1 as @jasonbell will tell you
I just hope the firealarm won't go off again at 4 in the morning... like it did last year
Of course, living in Whitby, I'm only going by what I read on the news, and not what I see by looking out the window...
@dharrigan I presume you are either a vampire or lover of chippies? #WhitbyStereotypes (sry)
Anyone here read 'Microservices with Clojure'? Wondering if I should pick it up, it's Packt though, so you never know what you're getting
I think Alex Miller said the only Packt Clojure book worth buying is the performance one and even that is pretty outdated
The trick is to get a subscription to ACM, which is $75 per year if you google around for a discount code or $100 otherwise. With that you get subscription to Safari where you have all the ebooks from O’Reilly, Manning, Packt & pretty much any other computing publisher. Then all that is left is to find the time to read all those books 🙂
