i agree!
I might just do 70km, as I may be cycling to Oxford and back at the weekend which is about 250km...
If any want to sponsor my 1,000 mile (1,600km) ride across Britain for the Princes Trust charity to help young disadvantaged people in the UK, there is still time (every little helps and I am matching your donations) https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/jr0cket
is there a standard LEJOG route that everyone uses?
do you have to devise your own?
there's alot of roads in the UK that I know I wouldn't want to cycle on
and there must be more roads that I don't know, that I also would not want to cycle on
@alex.lynham - Massive extra bonus points for using โexcelsiorโ
@ben.hammond the route is created by the organisers of the event, although I assume a similar path is taken by other rides. This route is designed to be completed in 9 days, whereas most other rides are 14 to 21 days. So it's going to be a lot of long hard day's in the saddle. It will make cycling to the Clojure dojo's and back again seem completely insignificant...
is that the barclays (hsbc?) one thatโs every sept?
@jr0cket all my roadie friends start muttering about chamois butter whenever conversation veers towards ultra distance events
I use chamois cream for anything over 20 miles or if I will be in cycling gear for more than a few hours. I also use it for commuting, mainly to kill bacteria. I will be using a lot of chamois cream on the 1000 mile ride. Also got some nice Assos bib shorts to help reduce friction and prevent a sore behind.
maybe suspension makes a difference - i don't use any creams, not even on the south downs way, and don't have any problems. i do like my bib shorts though
I found a better saddle too, but still need cream as I sweat a lot after so many years of dojo pizza... I have another blood test next week to see if my triglycerides are still in the danger zone. My ECG was normal, so not going to die today ๐
all about the talc and a charge spoon saddle
I did 140k on my stock decathlon saddle a few years ago and switched to charge after that ordeal lol
probably just an mtb thing, but i love my ergon grips - totally gets rid of the handlebar palsy i was getting on long rides
Carbon bars and cycling gloves did that for me
What are ergon grips?
https://ergonbike.com/en/product.html?a=griffe#gpmtb-42410005 - they reduce pressure on the ulnar nerve, which is particularly bad on mtb, 'cos you've only got a single hand position
and i always have gloves, 'cos otherwise you lose all the skin on your hands when you OTB
Although genuinely my best cycling buy was used aero bars for a tenner on ebay
Clip on aero bars that is
Absolutely the dream when there's a headwind
@otfrom how did 48k become the boundary ?
I am but small and weedy compared to the cycling giants here (and I don't just mean @thomas)
It's beautiful in Kent today, nice refresh breeze to go with the sunny weather ๐๐
@dominicm alias and jvm-opts is where I ended up but it took me a fair while to figure out how to put it all together. I wasn't able to find a good example (one might exist, but I couldn't shake it out of google)
@otfrom If you want to use the deps.edn alias from Emacs I wrote a blog post about that http://jr0cket.co.uk/2019/07/CIDER-jack-in-to-Clojure-CLI-projects-from-Spacemacs.html
I always end up having to translate to holy mode or hope the config is the same as vanilla emacs ๐ the .dir-locals is a good idea tho
I did put the Emacs holy mode keybinding as a comment somewhere in the blog ๐
I have gone to the Evil side since using Spacemacs ๐ฟ
if it isn't in my 20 most used keybindings my brain apparently has no room for it, so i just m-x it, for which helm is awesome
