Recommends for favourite - ligature-aware - font for editing clojure (or a.n.other source) code?

dharrigan07:08:18

Curiously, that's what prompted my message above. I saw it referenced in lob.sters

dharrigan07:08:35

so was curious to see what others are using (presently, I'm experimenting with Hasklig)

3Jane08:08:34

yes! I love iosevka so much

3Jane08:08:43

the other options are Fira Code and Hasklig

3Jane08:08:19

(but as The Other Fussy Dev in my co. uses Fira Code, I have to go with Iosevka to break the trend 😉 )

dharrigan08:08:31

Just tried Iosevka, not really for me - too "thin". I like my fonts a bit wider 🙂

dharrigan08:08:47

Currently enjoying Hasklig

3Jane08:08:25

I can see why Hasklig then 🙂 is also very nice

I have gone proprietary and used source code pro, feels bad but I also really like it

minimal10:08:45

what makes it proprietary? OFL not enough?

dominicm10:08:21

Oh, I got mixed up, it's input mono that's proprietary. https://input.fontbureau.com/

minimal10:08:13

ah, not seen that one. Narrow like PragmataPro, which I use

dharrigan08:08:45

there is SauceCode Pro

dharrigan08:08:11

which is based on source code but with nerd fonts augmentation

dominicm08:08:08

Still proprietary, no?

mccraigmccraig08:08:11

måningyålls

alexlynham09:08:32

I use meslo DG for powerline

dominicm09:08:46

Nowhere else but in this context does that mean anything to anyone.

dominicm09:08:05

Meslo is just deja vu sans

dharrigan09:08:47

@dominicm I have a integrant question, mind if I ping you DM?

dharrigan09:08:55

(just to see if you're doing what I'm doing)

practicalli-johnny09:08:02

I use the Ubuntu font family, i find it very readable and elegant. They are under an open licence and come with my favourite operating system. The fonts are also available as a free download from https://design.ubuntu.com/font/ and via Google fonts CDN for web apps https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Ubuntu

maleghast09:08:26

Morning All... Gotta ask; "Ligature aware" - was ist das?

dharrigan09:08:23

fancy arrows 😉

dominicm09:08:36

When you type >= you get a "joined up" version of >=

dominicm09:08:54

in fira code, typing www gets you a www that looks like cheshire cat

Ben Hammond10:08:15

I do hate it when I type inverted commas and they get converted to some utf monstrosity that get mangled in my ascii text editor

mccraigmccraig10:08:37

i used to like the ligatures, but then i switched to a version of osx-emacs with better scroll performance and i lost the ligatures

Ben Hammond10:08:15

the word has unpleasant associations

Ben Hammond10:08:25

makes me think of Lindow Man

otfrom10:08:45

@ben.hammond I do think everyone who uses these fonts will be ritually sacrificed and thrown into a peat bog. That's just physics.

Ben Hammond10:08:24

they'll become immortal

Ben Hammond10:08:15

the egyptian pharaohs who were mummified in preparation for the afterlife; and it turns out that the afterlife is to be in a glass case in the British/Cairo museum I presume that would ... come as a surprise to them

minimal12:08:31

I like ligatures in my editor (emacs, PragmataPro) but this is interesting: https://practicaltypography.com/ligatures-in-programming-fonts-hell-no.html

maleghast13:08:40

I was wondering if anyone else was having that association, @ben.hammond
