Re yesterday's discussion, I wfh'd this week and it was the most productive thing ever. Being able to go for a walk when stuck, and to cook my own food, made a huge difference

At the same time, I went down to the office for something almost every day, so it wasn't entirely isolated. I've done proper remote ("drive several h to the office once every couple months") for a year, and that drove me crazy b/c of loneliness. I'm not sure how to reconcile these two. Maybe it's not that remote is really good, it's that the current office trend (everyone together in a huge room, pointless meetings allthetime) is really bad.

Open offices are terrible for productivity

I'm fortunate to work, presently, in an open office that is super quiet, but I have worked in open offices that are a mix of sales, marketing, support and developers (not to mention C-Levels)

It was the worst

Yet, they persist, since sticking everybody in one room is a lot cheaper than having offices for "knowledge" workers

Yet, I'm sure if they measured productivity/vs cost of having a room, the results would be illuminating.

I think the big problem is, nobody know how to measure productivity

And there is an immediate benefit (and thus financial bonus) to cutting costs

I think there's a lot of cross pollination when you're sat in the same room too

dominicm15:06:39

Maybe a bigger issue for us, because we all work on different projects.
