Morning!

maleghast09:05:08

Morning All! I watched Endgame last night - no spoilers, fear not - I am a very happy Geek this morning.

maleghast09:05:14

How y'all doin'?

Conor09:05:32

On a train to That London

maleghast09:05:53

Trains are good - nice environment to get work done and move through the World.

dominicm09:05:58

I'm waiting to watch captain marvel still

dominicm09:05:08

Then I can go see endgame

maleghast09:05:12

@dominicm - Definitely see CM first if you can.

Conor09:05:56

The wifi won't let me connect to k8s or use a VPN though, bit annoying

dominicm09:05:06

Won't be able to see it for 2 weeks at least, once my partner is done with university.

dharrigan09:05:08

no spoilers!

dharrigan09:05:18

some people (with babies) can't get out to watch it yet!

dominicm09:05:22

Katie had to stop going on Facebook and reddit because of spoilers

Conor09:05:42

I don't really get why people are so obsessed with avoiding spoilers

Conor09:05:54

I usually look up the plot of things before I watch/consume/whatever them

dharrigan09:05:09

I generally do the same @conor.p.farrell , for mediocre or B-rated movies (or ones I know I won't go and see, or wait to, um watch, via um various other means), but for generally well-regarded, highly-rated movies, I prefer to go in without knowing anything.

dharrigan09:05:25

same for shows, like GoT

3Jane09:05:29

> I don’t really get why people are so obsessed with avoiding spoilers because they defuse the tension

3Jane09:05:13

part of the fun in a well written whodunnit (for example) is guessing who it was, as you follow the plot.

Conor09:05:36

I would totally look up who H is in Line of Duty if I could

thomas09:05:15

When I have watched a film I tend to read the wikipedia entry afterwards... just to get more info about it, who played in it, anecdotes about the production etc... and the plot of course, as sometimes I just don't get it 😉

alexlynham09:05:46

I don’t read blurbs even on the back of books if I can avoid it

alexlynham09:05:54

what’s the point of a story if you already know it?

dharrigan09:05:44

@thomas I'm the same 🙂

thomas09:05:26

glad to hear I am not the only one @dharrigan

Conor09:05:31

Entirely wrong @alex.lynham, stories get better when you already know them

alexlynham10:05:39

I feel like this is the moment in the film where the main character works out who the real villain was all along

practicalli-johnny10:05:30

I am at the BeyondTech conference again today, promoting ClojureBridge London. Lots of really interested people at the conference, especially with some of the demos I am showing them.

rickmoynihan10:05:49

 I might need to leave this channel if we’re talking GoT spoilers…

alexlynham10:05:15

the dragon was the real Ned Stark all along

alexlynham10:05:30

and it’s on the iron throne… total shocker

alexlynham10:05:38

big wings, can’t fit on the chair v well

alexlynham11:05:04

crown looks silly, it’s tiny

dharrigan11:05:22

:shocked_face_with_exploding_head:

dominicm11:05:41

Read the books though, so I can vaguely understand what people are saying

thomas12:05:50

haven't read the books either.

dharrigan12:05:34

You're not winning anyone over here, Thomas 🙂

thomas12:05:50

I am well aware of that. Maybe I am just a Luddite in that respect.

thomas12:05:54

we don't have NetFlix (or Amazon Prime), or any of the other like it.

dharrigan12:05:13

neither do I.....

Ben Hammond16:05:00

any hardware experts here? If my NAS is flagging problems on my 7 year old HD * Current_Pending_Sector * Offline_Uncorrectable Then its time to swap in a new HD, isn't ti

practicalli-johnny15:05:10

If it just happened once and your NAS is using RAID 5 or some other redundancy, then start looking around for deals on new drives. If there is no RAID redundancy, or there is no other backup, and these warnings are happening all the time, then get to http://scan.co.uk or ebuyer and buy a new drive. If the data on that drive is accessed regularly and downtime will be a pain, then time to go shopping now.
