morning!

practicalli-johnny08:04:11

Do you have any thoughts on who you would like to see at ClojureX 2019? The ClojureX program team will be deciding on speakers to invite to ClojureX 2019 in the next few weeks, so I would be interested to hear your thoughts. We will also be opening the call for talks soon.

How often do you hear "Rich"? I bet it gets annoying

practicalli-johnny09:04:09

It’s a given that Rich Hickey is a highly sought after speaker 😀

maleghast09:04:43

It is also worth noting that he has quite publicly said that he is doing his best to not only let others speak, but that he does not relish the attendant travel.

maleghast09:04:39

Not that it would not be marvellous to have him speak at Clojure eXchange (again), but I think that we can do as well looking at other candidates.

Ben Hammond09:04:32

I'd have • David Nolen • Colin Fleming on my fantasy-ClojureX wish list

v. important IMO

dominicm09:04:13

I wonder if there's a game for fantasy programming teams or something.

3Jane09:04:30

let others speak

3Jane09:04:05

like what Japanese swordsmiths used to do (apparently), when one won top the awards in all competitions once, they’d get a title of master swordsmith and would no longer be eligible to participate

rickmoynihan08:04:05

Interesting… I wonder if there may be another less altruistic benefit to this though; where they wanted to avoid being compared to other masters. Though to be honest judging things at that level to award something the honor of being best, seems pretty pointless.

3Jane14:04:31

it’s also less altruistic from the perspective of an awards ceremony

3Jane14:04:52

(I think)

3Jane14:04:59

ie. they want as many people to compete as possible, and it’d kill them if there were a persistent local winner

dominicm10:04:00

I'd be interested in hearing RH-like talks still though. He has a skill for turning things about the industry in their head.

guy10:04:20

👋 can anyone remember that clojure logging lib that lets you set the logging levels of ns via a function call, its not timbre though.

guy10:04:06

(set-logger! :level org.apache.log4j.Level/WARN) was what i was after

maleghast10:04:36

Gonna Tweet your jobspec unless you tell me not to @otfrom

otfrom10:04:52

@maleghast oh yes, pls RT that job spec pls pls pls

jasonbell10:04:57

I’d love to speak again but only because @thomas , @yogidevbear and @agile_geek would get upset that there was no one to heckle at.

jasonbell10:04:33

And my AI talks are now completely redundant as Darcey has announced she’s leaving Strictly Come Dancing.

thomas11:04:11

I'd love to do an act with you @jasonbell!!!

@thomas That is a scary prospect. I only allow one idiot on the stage at a time and that’s me 🙂
