Bore da
nice. where are you gonna go? Carse of Gowrie? St Andrews?
I've not got quite that much time. Just a loop (well a tadpole) part of the way to Perth. I need to make a drop off at Ninewells Hospital on the way.
I'm heading to here today https://goo.gl/maps/1ot1kTtNYdQ2 and then back home via RRS Discovery. About 18 miles in all (I'm slow, with a heavy bike, but having fun)
re Vertical Slicing; if you realise that you need to split some functionality off into its own micro-service pool, that is alot easier if code is already structured veritically
conversely you can bring features into process if you need the tighter processing loops

Finally got the bike back from the shop. Worked out that the only original parts of it now are the main frame and one of the shift/brake levers...
yeah my cheapo btwin bike still has the frame, forks and front wheel as stock after 6 odd years of manchester potholes ^_^
are manchester potholes particularly vicious @alex.lynham? (i've lost a couple of car wheels to sussex potholes in the last decade)
@otfrom Well, first thing to go was the shift/brake lever. Manufacturing defect, replaced under warranty. Then within about 12 months the freehub started catching, and the wheel rims would have been ground away by the brakes within about 3-6 more months anyway, so I got new wheels and took the opportunity (as my frame had the mount points) to get disks instead of rim brakes
The most recent one the chain slipped off the front chainring because they were starting to get too worn (and one had a bit of a wobble/bend), and in attempting to shift+pedal it back on I tore the rear derailleur hangar, the rear derailleur got mangled by the chain as it came off, and it went into the rear wheel and destroyed 5 spokes. So I had the wheel rebuilt, and the hangar, rear derailleur, and front chainrings, all replaced
it depends on the road really, there's a lot of very busy bus routes that become death traps in winter
I was lol'ing at my comment but the timing made it look like I was engaging in schadenfreude
why did I not know about this emoji? :face_with_monocle:
Possibly because monocle wearing went out of fashion in 1975 and came back when the magazine was launched. 🙂
@carr0t that sounds like an epic bit of bike trouble. May you nor anyone else suffer that again.
can I remind you all again to come to :flag-nl: and enjoy our marvellous bike paths!!! :man-biking:
i like hills @thomas - how is :flag-nl: for hills ?
but if hills are your thing I would advise against it @mccraigmccraig
My position would be that an object is 'the same object' if there is a direct causal link with the original object, so my grandfather's axe, after replacing the handle and the blade, is still the same axe 😉
I think I tend to agree with Conor on that, no idea if it's a coherent philosophical position mind you
the more interesting question is whether the reconstructed ship is Theseus' ship
I think both are, surely?
they're just materialised versions of the same abstract thing with a common ancestor, I don't see why... there can be only one
The entire Old Town of Warsaw has been bombed to rubble in WW2, and consequently rebuilt based on posh XVIIIth century postcards (aka city landscape paintings usually sold to people doing tour of Europe), architectural sketches etc. Apparently people used original bricks and decoration pieces, if they could find it in rubble.
Or … if I split the axe into blade and handle, (blade, handle’) and (blade’, handle) … is this a git branch of the axe?
Look, I've played enough RPGs to know that if someone sends you to find three parts of a magic weapon and you put them together, you get the legendary magic weapon
In case anyone is interested, I created a #clojure-uk stream over at https://clojurians.zulipchat.com It's currently just a lonely "morning" or two from me 😄
I mean we’re basically talking about iterating over a change stream or constructing an event sourced set of deltas right? Because one can fork and the other can’t…
(I think… might need to ponder that further)
i'm a PK purist - if it has the same PK then it's the same object, and all the different things with the same PK are versions of that object
Sounds like another cost saver FAAS
I know I’ve made it because a French contractor on a project I’m on said the phrase “but you’re a devops!” to me
I am devops
confirmed.
huh, did y'all see the #clojure-<country-code>
slack stats (posted on zulip/community-development) - #clojure-uk has about 5 times the traffic of the next most busy, #clojure-italy, and the only others with any significant traffic are #clojure-russia and #clojure-nl ... this surprised me - i had mistakenly assumed that other countries were just as busy as the uk
Stan Lee passed away 😞
@U0K1RLM99 I bought a nice keyboard https://shop.keyboard.io/ and it was like plugging into the matrix (slight exaggeration probably)
Its totally awesome, the world seems so much closer to my fingertips.. I can even control my mouse with the keys...
Now just a way to get a half decent key mapping for sexpr-slurp-(left|right)
and I’ll be even happier.
shift and not capslock?
