We got 3 trick or treaters this year

What happened?

It was very quiet in our neighbourhood too compared to last year. Even in terms of houses with decorations handing out treats

That's cool. We couldn't find any carving kits this year.

most shops we went to had no Halloween sections.

We couldn't even get a biscuit with a spider on from Gregg's.

my 8yr old managed to get 950g of sweets from around our way last night - and there were roving tides of screaming children everywhere - maybe people are travelling further afield to neighbourhoods with juicier pickings ?

that's 3800kcal of carbohydrate... i think it will be a good while before he's allowed to get through that pile

Oh my god.

Our neighborhood isn't particularly "well off". But I can't imagine people making the 10-15m drive to the other side of town to be in the richer part. Maybe I don't know enough though 🙂

no, me neither, trick or treating wasn't a thing when i was of the age

The teen didn’t even bother answering the door last night. So I was left to do it. 🙂

we're not in the right neighbourhood of Dundee for any guising

Laura was very disappointed that we only had one group, and they were scared of the dog

Although she didn't have time to sort a pumpkin, and most folks pass by houses without obvious decorations

I wonder if the lack of decorations on our street discouraged people from coming down

@dominicm most likely - we only went to houses with pumpkins or other obvious halloween kitsch - i imagine my children were thinking that as long as there are a sufficient number of such houses then that behaviour will maximise their candy yield

I'll have to start a competition next year with my neighbors somehow.

Now Halloween is over it’s now the race to who can get the Christmas lights on first

put a raspberry pi powered LED counter outside displaying weight of candy left 😉

and maybe a visitors count. Just like in the old days of geocities 😛

Treats were always gone by the 3rd December so I made it difficult. 🙂

I build a small website with each day and what the treat was. Then printed out barcodes for each day. I then gave an old POS barcode scanner to my daughter and showed her then advent calendar.

She loved it…… for about a week.

what were the treats? how did the barcode scanner factor in?

In London, the best places for trick or treating are where the (wealthy) Americans live. And then their (non American) neighbours follow in the same fashion.

@dominicm Had to scan the barcode, the website would tell her what the treat was and then it was given to her. Sounds horrid I know but I’ve seen an advent calendar cleared in three days so I had to do something 🙂

@jasonbell did you think maybe you shouldn't stuff all the chocolate in your own face but let your daughter have it? (at this point Jade will say he doesn't like chocolate, which I think is just a likely story and not the truth)

it doesn't, it was always rubbish, but previously i could use totalspaces to give me something much more functional (2d grid of virtual desktops, 2d key-based desktop nav, ability to exposé all desktops in an overview and drag/drop windows between them were the key features)

now mojave won't let totalspaces run without disabling SIP permanently

so i'm forced to use MissionControl and i hate it
