Morning All 🙂

maleghast07:10:13

I am about to disappear for a couple of hours, but thought I’d say “hi!”

thomas07:10:02

happy disappearance!

agile_geek07:10:37

@mccraigmccraig given my experience.... no,, and many orgs make it their life mission to push the boundary every day

danm08:10:06

@mccraigmccraig I can confirm we have very messy data

danm08:10:10

I blame editorial

danm08:10:20

And some of the other internal teams who use our system 😉

otfrom09:10:38

hoo-mans. it is always the hoo-mans. and any of the sensors they put in

otfrom09:10:42

or robots they create

3Jane09:10:47

customer’s data? try a provider with a defined schema.

3Jane09:10:43

it’s the false sense of security that gets you

3Jane09:10:46

(but also, I once found “HGV driver” provided as value of “Nationality” so I stopped wondering about human capabilities for weirdness 😄 )

alexlynham09:10:31

> human capabilities for weirdness also human capability for not reading the form 😂

alexlynham12:10:16

^ omg I am taking that

Its Cosmic Cuttlefish day today! The new version of Ubuntu, 18.10, is released today. I have been using the developer release on my old laptop, along with Emacs27 (manually compiled). The Ubuntu desktop has an improved look and is very snappy, it also uses less memory and remains a great experience for those who prefer to use their keyboard over mouse. Emacs 25 is packages for 18.10, for newer versions then either manually compile or wait for them to be added to the ppa (should be soon). http://releases.ubuntu.com/18.10/

practicalli-johnny12:10:05

I've switched Spacemacs over to the Ubuntu theme for the day to celebrate https://github.com/rocher/ubuntu-theme

agile_geek14:10:57

I don't think I'll switch versions of Ubuntu in the middle of a client contract but something for early next year

practicalli-johnny15:10:51

Isnt your current client all about switching though 🙂

maleghast14:10:58

Hmmm Ubuntu is__ nice, but I am still in ❤️ with Arch…

alexlynham15:10:22

I want to do a lightning talk somewhere about how much easier my life has gotten since learning how to use emojis better in slack in a professional environment

alexlynham15:10:38

esp working with remote platform folks, oh em gee

practicalli-johnny15:10:45

@alex.lynham If we have spare time you can give that at ClojureX 🙂

👍 4
alexlynham15:10:50

haha "how judicious use of the 👍 🙂 emojis allowed us to deliver faster, work together and have a good time, all the time"

3Jane16:10:45

I want to hear you read that title aloud 😛

alexlynham16:10:07

wait til you get to some of the custom emojis

alexlynham16:10:48

"how my mentoring experience was made easier by the gyrating coffee parrot emoji"

alexlynham15:10:55

it's a work in progress, haha

alexlynham15:10:15

custom emojis like :jenkinsonfire: are useful too 😄

practicalli-johnny18:10:38

If you give this talk at ClojureX you could dress up as your favourite emoji 🐈👾 or maybe persuade me to do so 😂

alexlynham19:10:41

if we're allowed custom emoji I could do bb8 captainphasma

alexlynham22:10:20

any excuse to buy a stormtrooper helmet, right?!
