I still have a little blue up here. I know what you mean though. Not too bad, bit frustrated I can't walk around much still. I figured I'd be up and about by now.
morning morning
måning
what happened to you @dominicm?
@mccraigmccraig I had a mole removed between my toes, a couple weeks ago or so. Just an awkward place, so healing is taking time I guess.
ouch - that does sound like an awkward place. i hope you are mobile soon!
Bore da
Lovely blue sky's up here near the arctic circle... Have to ask @otfrom how it is north of the wall!
i thought you meant the actual arctic circle for a mo then @agile_geek - a good summer with midnight sun is amazing
I wish
No just that there are an amazing number of people who think Newcastle is right next door to places like Sheffield ... not 130 miles further north!
I'm trying to encourage ppl to come to Build IT Right and see the city for themselves! gratuitous plug
yeah baltic is ace
If I lived in Dundee I'd commemorate the Tay Bridge Disaster every year with a reading of McGonagall's poem
it's ☁️ in :flag-wales:
@conor.p.farrell the whole city goes down to the waterfront every day to do that
Morning.
@conor.p.farrell: If you have the stomach for it… Lets face it Rabbie Burns gets the once a year treatment, and he was a good poet! Once, ever! Is more than enough for McGonagall! 😆
I do still miss my daily walks by the Tay. The river and bridge are stunningly beautiful.
The V&A should be opening soon. Will definitely need to pay it a visit when I’m next over that way.
it’s a pretty awesome building they’ve been throwing up: https://www.vandadundee.org/news-and-blog/blog/opening-date
@rickmoynihan it is worth going to the Jute Musuem too if you are ever up here.
@otfrom: Do you mean the verdant works?
😁 Yeah the museum is pretty great… especially if you get a demo of the machinery.
yeah you will… I used to live around the corner from there too.
You need to check the times they do it before you go.
@otfrom: have you been to the mcmanus galleries yet? They’re worth a visit.
I've been quite a few times. I like visiting free museums in short bits and really taking in just a few things.
yeah, thankfully none of them are too big
and up the Law and Broughty Castle (which is my Dundee zombie apocalypse fortress plan)
not that too big is a problem
Well you’re fair seeing the place… The view from the Law is great.
the DCA keeps bringing in things to have an opinion about as do the universities and a few of the other local galleries. There is a lot of art and culture for only 150k people.
yeah, Dundee has a lot going for it
just don't tell anyone. Everyone in Scotland thinks it is Scumdee and that means we can actually afford a house here. 😉
Yeah I know 🙂
These gardens towards forfar are well worth a visit too: http://www.pitmuies.com/
as is a short trip to Reekie Lynn
Definitely… 😱 Midgees!!!
Despite the grey, I'm liking the rain a little, it's brought the colour out in the flowers. Which makes me quite happy.
I love scotland but it is cold and wet
Dundee is scotlands sunniest city 🌦️
Dundee is like a cooler London from a weather pov. https://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/Scotland/Dundee/statistics.html https://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/England/London/statistics.html https://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/England/Manchester/statistics.html
@lady3janepl no, I really don't. 😉
I'm so much happier in sunny weather, it's enough to make me want to move to Denver
cool and not too dry with a fair bit of sun seems to be working for me. :rain_cloud: :sun_small_cloud:
Dreich is one of my favourite Scots words
tbf I could live with cool and sunny
I just want to live and work from Cyprus. But no flip flops as they are against the law.
Cyprus?
@danieleneal Yes Cyprus I love it there.
@carr0t I've sped at 80 mph in a restored 1952 Morris Minor in Limassol, the only time I've been properly petrified 🙂
I've never been - do you have a connection/family there?
Also meaning if you ever come off the bike you pretty much guarantee breaking your arm in at least 1, possibly 2, places
I came off my motorbike (went over the handlebars). I didn't break anything but I was glad I had leathers and a full face helmet (otherwise I wouldn't be so pretty).
Well yes, but you presumably didn't have your arm crooked through the neck hole and out the visor hole of a very solid helmet when that happened...
Yeah, i also cringe at: 1. Riding a m/c in shorts...frequently GF of a fully leather clad man 2. Riding with a large bike chain wrapped around your body.
Oh yeah....riding with helmet perched on top of head!
I've come off my bike twice...both at under 30 mph and was glad I was in full leathers the first time and in armoured Gortex/Kevlar trousers and jacket (zipped together!)
I do worry about coming off my bicycle in lycra as I've reached over 45mph downhill before!
yeah, I get quite worried about road rash while cycling as it is similar to getting a bad burn
Been knocked off my bicycle at 25mph before but got away very lightly. A few bruises, skinned knee and thigh and a dislodged clavical-acromion joint (mainly ligament damage).
Managed to break my acromioclavicular joint when I went over the handlebars on a Milton Keynes redway. Right shoulder is still a couple of inches lower than the left!
perhaps surprisingly road biking seems rather more dangerous than mtb, based on the frequency of injury reports i hear from cycling friends in both disciplines
And it's only their own skill or lack of they're worrying about. They expect gravel etc and ride accordingly
On the road it's a top-of-head helmet, thin lycra, and if you are caning it down a hill and leaning hard into a corner then an unexpected pothole or some gravel when you're expecting smooth tarmac can be deadly
2 of our guys both broke their backs within 2 weeks of each other, one wiped out on some gravel going down a fast hill. The other had 2 foxes dash out in front of him through a hedge a went over the handlebars
My accident was the result of swerving to avoid a child who charged out of a bush. I think the little "dear" suffered a bruised foot.
weirdly all you crashing roadies are making me feel like i should up my mtb safety-equipment game
@danieleneal no family, no I just love being there.
@jasonbell counting down the years till they leave? 😄
Morning
Any PGP experts about at the moment?
