Well... our build broke today with Clojure 1.10.0 master (Alpha 5) so that was exciting 🙂

seancorfield05:06:48

And I also got to watch acupuncture on a cat for the first time 🙂

dominicm06:06:32

What changed in Clojure to cause that?

dominicm06:06:42

Why did your cat need acupuncture?

seancorfield06:06:55

Alpha 5 uses a new version of ASM that throws an exception on (case (byte 47) 1 2 3)

seancorfield06:06:23

It used to be a no-op in ASM. Unclear if it's a bug in ASM or not right now. It breaks Nippy.

seancorfield06:06:34

(as in, throws a compilation error!)

seancorfield06:06:32

Our cat has injured his back... not sure how... we took him in for chiropractic last week and that really helped and we figured we'd try acupuncture as well. He has another chiropractic appointment on Monday 🙂

seancorfield06:06:07

This is a cat that got terrible pancreatitis a few years back and cost us $10,000 for ten days in hospital 😐

dominicm06:06:07

I wonder why there was an upgrade...

bronsa08:06:00

java 6 an 7 have been EOL for a few years already and we needed to bump bytecode versions in order to be able to support new jvm features

dominicm08:06:25

so the choice has been made to drop 6/7 support?

dominicm08:06:00

Woah. What kind of improvements will we see from this?

bronsa08:06:34

better support for java 9, probably some indy stuff

bronsa08:06:39

invoke dynamic

dominicm08:06:01

what does invoke dynamic changes get us?

bronsa08:06:52

depends on what we’ll use it for :) I’m just speculating, don’t know of any actual plans

bronsa09:06:17

for example

dominicm06:06:17

Ouch. I thought my dog was expensive. That's a lot. Insured?

guy08:06:01

Morning!

mccraigmccraig12:06:40

yes, event replay @jasonbell, but where change is really shining for us is in the ability to introspect the details of the update, which is great when you are doing your own denormalization

maleghast12:06:39

Hello All 🙂

seancorfield15:06:17

Anyone thinking of coming over the pond for Clojure/conj this year?

bronsa15:06:26

I had so much fun last year that I’m considering it.. altho might be tricky to convince my employer as I don’t do clojure at work anymore

seancorfield15:06:46

Tickets go on sale while I'm in England (ironically!).

bronsa15:06:06

anywhere close to london? :)

seancorfield16:06:51

We may pop into London for a bit of tourism. A good friend lives in South Woodford so we may go out drinking with him one night. We'd have to find somewhere to stay in London for that 🙂

seancorfield16:06:23

We're mostly staying with family in rural West Sussex for a week and a half, then we're spending a weekend with an old friend up in Shropshire (taking the train up Snowdonia on the Saturday and hanging out at her stable to play with horses Sunday morning).

danm16:06:59

Hi from Manchester

danm16:06:19

When are you over? I'm in Cyprus for the next week and a bit

seancorfield16:06:42

We arrive on the 5th, head home on the 17th.

danm16:06:11

Ahha, we get back on the 10th

danm16:06:20

You're not coming up as far as us though 🙂

seancorfield16:06:22

We have friends up near Manc that we'll probably visit on the Sunday (15th). En route back from our friend in Shropshire.

bronsa16:06:37

@seancorfield cool! if you’re ever around and up to meeting for a beer/coffee send a ping :)

danm16:06:12

@seancorfield Whereabouts near Mancs?

maleghast16:06:37

@seancorfield - I am probably going to be at Clojure Conj 2018

seancorfield16:06:19

I'll ping this channel once I have a better sense of our drinking plans in various parts of the country! 🙂 🍻

alexlynham17:06:00

Northwich is close to mcr!

alexlynham17:06:07

tempted by clojure conj but it'll be expensivo

seancorfield17:06:31

Cheaper than Strange Loop (by $300) 🙂

alexlynham17:06:01

clearly the most laid-back price

yogidevbear18:06:54

I'd love to go to both Clojure/conj and strange loop, but ClojuTRE is a little closer and cheaper 🙂

yogidevbear18:06:37

And from the sounds of it, last year was really good

yogidevbear18:06:38

Another conf which looks really good is http://curry-on.org/2018/ but it's a bit more expensive

sundarj18:06:38

yeah, i'm planning to go to ClojuTRE

seancorfield19:06:30

If I was still based over there, I expect I'd go to ClojuTRE 🙂 -- assuming I'd found work as a Clojure developer over there!

joetague19:06:21

Hi folks. For those of you in Scotland :flag-scotland: and near Glasgow there is a new Clojure meetup beginning on the 11th July. I remember there was question perhaps a few weeks ago if there was anything happening in Scotland, unfortunately I forget which member asked. If you know anyone that maybe interested please direct them here: https://www.meetup.com/Glasgow-Software-Development-Meetup/events/252134155/ Thanks

mccraigmccraig08:06:39

that's in @U08ABGP70’s neck of the woods isn't it ?

agile_geek09:06:33

I like the fact that the picture is of the ClojureBridge event in London from about Nov 2016….you can see the back of my head in that pic.

maleghast10:06:12

I would love to, but I will be in London on the 11th

hyankov11:06:29

I brought up the subject. Will do my best to join 🙂

otfrom12:06:16

I will annoyingly be traveling to London that day

joetague01:06:10

Should be monthly recurring from the 11th. I’d be so happy if you could support Charlotte

otfrom11:06:31

Excellent stuff

otfrom11:06:16

I vaguely remember how dojos work 😉
