@thomas oh you poor thing

thomas08:06:38

I know... I feel very sorry for myself actually.

thomas08:06:04

hmm there is even a Dummies book on ISO 20022....

hyankov08:06:24

Morning everyone! I joined #clojure-uk in the past two weeks while on holiday and didnโ€™t have the chance to introduce myself. My name is Hristo which is the Bulgarian equivalent of Chris but without the โ€œCโ€. Iโ€™m currently in Edinburgh, working for Amazon. Unfortunately not doing Clojure but I look forward to changing that. The EDI Clojure community is pretty quiet, no meetups or dojos, so I found #clojure-uk very refreshing during my holiday!

I've always found Edinburgh to be so beautiful when its sunny โ˜€๏ธ

korny08:06:51

Hi @hyankov - there were a bunch of Clojure enthusiasts in Glasgow when I was there - you should hook up with them!

thomas09:06:17

welcome @hyankov

hyankov09:06:19

Thanks, @guy I was surprised at how sunny it is most of the time. However, it always rains when I have guests. I guess to keep the weather legend alive ๐Ÿ™‚

guy09:06:45

haha yes ๐Ÿ˜„

hyankov09:06:28

Hi @korny, I remember seeing some Clojure/FP meetups in the area when I moved in but nothing lately. Do you know anyone from the Scottish area in this channel?

danm09:06:17

I know there are a few folks here up in Scotland, but also Scotland is a bit place with lots of empty space, so I don't know that they're necessarily close to you ๐Ÿ˜‰

hyankov09:06:58

Thatโ€™s true, itโ€™s just me being ignorant and assuming Scotland is just Edinburgh + Glasgow in terms of software development ๐Ÿ™‚

korny09:06:21

@hyankov not sure - I can't see any I remember from the channel members. @malcolmsparks might know more about Glasgow clojurists?

malcolmsparks09:06:34

I'm sure if you arranged a meet up in Edinburgh or Glasgow you'd smoke out some of the local community @hyankov

๐Ÿ˜€ 8
hyankov09:06:13

That would be really interesting and educational, Iโ€™ve never organized a meet up. Thanks, @malcolmsparks

otfrom09:06:44

I know @ali_king is in Edinburgh. I'm in Dundee. Some in Glasgow.

joetague10:06:14

Hi folks, Iโ€™m Joe, long time lurker from Glasgow and was part of Glasgow Clojurians for a while and went to maybe one or two of the Edinburgh Clojurians. Hi @hyankov, unfortunately I think there has not been a critical mass of people in either Glasgow or Edinburgh regularly doing Clojure together for sometime. I am happy to help to try and change that.

๐Ÿ˜€ 8
hyankov10:06:58

Hi Joe! It might be interesting to organize a one-time thing at least to count heads and see if the community has grown. Thanks for offering help, if I decide to do this will definitely reach out!

joetague10:06:17

Hi Hristo. You are welcome. There are a few functional enthusiasts in my work at Skyscanner in Edinburgh. The last Edinburgh Clojurians meet-up I went to was at FanDuel offices in the same building. What Iโ€™ll will do is gather interest at work for a meet-up in Edinburgh and report back here to you in a few days. There is also about 150 people in another slack team called DevTechScot (sign up here if you want another Slack in your life ๐Ÿ˜‚ links.devtech.scot/slack) which run other tech meetups in Edinburgh and Glasgow which might be a place to gather other people interested in Clojure and FP in general. Hope that helps.

maleghast11:06:18

I am near__ to Glasgow, when I am in Scotland, @hyankov ๐Ÿ™‚ *waves from Aberfoyle / Inversnaid*

maleghast11:06:13

I am also keen to grow the community a little (or a lot), so let me know if I can helpโ€ฆ I am often in London in the working week, sad to say, so I may not be the best example of a โ€œlocalโ€, but I am 100% Clojure / ClojureScript at the moment work & play, so keen to meet others up here and get people excited about the language ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyone got 5 minutes and the willingness to help with a Recharts / Reagent issue that is driving me mad..?

manas_marthi12:06:44

Do we have any virtual meetups like the VJUGs run by simon maple?

manas_marthi12:06:18

Sometime ago a reddit user posted his interest in running online presentations and asked for "show of hands" to find the number of interested parties

manas_marthi12:06:42

I asked him I would like to see some "code walk through" or "live coding" sessions on twitch or some other platform

manas_marthi12:06:49

He said he would keep that in mind

manas_marthi12:06:57

Haven't heard back (sent two follow up msgs also ๐Ÿ˜‘ )

practicalli-johnny15:06:18

https://twitter.com/apropos_cast may give you a bit of what you are looking for. Its run from out of the USA, so I dont usually watch it live

practicalli-johnny15:06:14

If you like "live coding", have you seen http://www.parens-of-the-dead.com/ ?

thomas14:06:11

btw I fixed the problem with the ISO 20022 XML file incase anyone wonders.

guy14:06:36

what was the issue

guy14:06:40

๐Ÿ‘€

thomas15:06:53

not entirely sure, but we ended up deleting part of the XML by hand and the import worked fine...

thomas15:06:24

we suspect some of the data in that part was malformed some how (but not the actual XML tags)

guy15:06:33

got ya

practicalli-johnny15:06:12

yogidevbear20:06:35

Anyone here used ArangoDB before?

maleghast21:06:28

@yogidevbear - I have not used it in anger, I have "played" with it for shits and giggles and to decide whether or not to recommend it as a technology choice, but no can't claim properly used it...

yogidevbear21:06:32

What was your general opinion after having played with it?

maleghast22:06:05

Itโ€™s a LONG time ago, back end of 2015, perhaps early 2016โ€ฆ Back then my feeling was that it was not ready for primetime. Iโ€™ve honestly not kept up with it, so it may be a lot better by now.

3Jane22:06:09

I always wondered how to terminate a reduce early, TIL: https://clojuredocs.org/clojure.core/reduced

now I can rest satisfied
