A thought I had this weekend: Would the election result have been different if that dreadful fire had been one/two weeks earlier?
“we should all stop already with our silly spellings and switch to using the IPA ” <-- THIS
imagine being able to read foreign languages (even if you didn’t understand them)
(we should probably write all programming languages in AST too, then Lisp wouldn’t seem so foreign)
that doesn’t have to a be a problem for phonetic spelling - you just change the spelling
guy: oic
although that in fact is closer to a phonetic spelling than it is to a dictionary spelling - otherwise it wouldn’t work!
and historical or regional texts would become a record not just of what was said, but also of the accent used
Sorry to see another attack on innocent ppl in London early this morning.
On a lighter note, my youngest daughter is laughing at me because I'm heading back down to London and it's going to hit 33°C whereas peak temp up here is only 26
we went to the beach yesterday (late) evening and I even managed to get a little bit of sunburn.
thomas: I’m feeling lightly cooked from a weekend at the seaside myself
yeah... we got there just before 5 and 1.5 hours later my face was quite red according to my wive... but today no problems.
Anyone else read the new Clojure characters page ...I learned something I didn't know... namespace map syntax https://clojure.org/guides/weird_characters
Having started using namespaced keywords more in maps I can see this saving some keystrokes
@bronsa I saw that
Yeah, that's really useful. We had a talk in http://Style.com about the difficulty of namespaced key destructuring without this
@maleghast I think you can get an ointment for that
@otfrom Not a problem - really did make me laugh... Things happen slowly in The Glens - we won't have our own internet connection until Weds / Thurs
don't worry @maleghast we'll send you updates via telegram 😉
@maleghast is that where you've ended up since you've moved back to the UK?
We're going to live up here and I will be down in London a couple of days each week, most but not all weeks.
Going to fly down on Sunday evenings, fly back on Wednesdays. Currently using AirBnB for "Private Rooms" (very reasonable in the main)
Have a list of "safe" places, and I am going to try and re-use them as much as possible...
When I have a better internet connection available I will try to let you know who the good ones I've experienced are, if you're interested..?
I've had some that were really good, one lady that I stayed with a couple of weeks in a row and we'd end up having breakfast & dinner together. Which was nice. Then others are just strange, like the guy who refused to give me a front door key, which meant I always needed to ensure that he was in before returning and then complained about me using a hairdryer at 8am
@alexsays - The former sounds lovely - I had breakfast with my host trip before last, she was a lovely lady, a retired teacher - but the latter sounds like the kind of "weird" I've bee warned about... 😉
@maleghast watch that traveling...it'll kill you, take it from me! Traveling Sunday is probably a good idea. Only reason I don't is I'd only be at home less than 2 days if I did!
