Well, all clear this morning!
Well hung... 🙂
…and I thought we’d abolished capital punishment.
still probably for the best!
Could have been better hung!
Scotland?
So the most likely government at this point is... Theresa May and the ghost of Ian Paisley?
@seancorfield I thought so too but sounds like DUP are playing hard ball.
In a way everyone lost (although Labour can claim a moral victory and a technical loss)
Morning 😞
Yup, someone "wins", but everyone loses
The PM's refusal to consider resigning shows that she really only has one card in her deck - stubbornness! She seems to think good leaders refuse to change their minds (and if they do refuse to acknowledge the change). IMHO good leaders listen and make informed choices, admitting they are wrong if necessary?
It's what I try to do but maybe that makes me a weak leader?
@agile_geek I think she has changed her mind to often... brexit, snap election, dementia tax, you name it. that is not leadership in my book
She's been forced to change her mind but doesn't acknowledge it. Changing your mind after a convincing argument is good, doing it because someone holds a gun to your head...?
and as @yogidevbear says... everyone is a loser here.
even worse - obviously changing your mind while denying that anything ever changed ever
@mccraigmccraig exactly my point!
ah, yeah, so it was @agile_geek 😊
What's next? My guess...she'll stay and the DUP gets to have their fun (someone save us!) but who knows?
obvs it will be a labour alliance with small-c tory bbs for a soft brexit and and end to neolib austerity insanity!
is that a serious prediction?
only in my barely-connected-to-reality fantasy world @peterwestmacott
@agile_geek Oh the DUP…. this is not good at all.
@glenjamin my best guess is voters who didn't want #indyref2 ?
@jasonbell don't you know it!
Interesting that if we had PR across all UK the Green party would have more seats than DUP!
I am disappointed that Winchester remained Con. (and Romsey and Eastleigh) (where I used to live)
@glenjamin ah, but they lost share because Green Party policy was to work on a liberal alliance so sacrificed there own chances in favour of other parties in a lot of constituencies
So Cons+DUP coalition now. Am I following this correclty?
Most of the the mainland knows pretty much nothing about the DUP, or NI politics in general
They're in for a shock
Yes that's one good thing
But they are racist, climate change denying, misogynists.. in the main.
Sound like anyone you know?
It always amazed me that UK governments in 70s,80s and 90s called out Sinn Fein for supporting terrorists but never really mentioned the DUP doing exactly the same.
why would you be amazed by government hypocrisy?
“If you’re not cynical, you’re not paying attention.”
I was young and idealistic in 70's and 80's
I’m idealistic now - but I don’t believe that that is incompatible with realism.
So another western government may be held hostage by misogynistic, climate change denying party, obstructionist party.
Tory backbenchers may actually be the ones in power?
well, whatever happens, its all looking very Strong and Stable
40 years of Tory party squabbling about EU and it comes down to....Tory party squabbling about EU....everything changes and nothing changes
someone should tell those tories that staying together for the sake of the kids only makes the kids require a lot of therapy
and yet boy Dave things that holding the referendum was a good thing... cognitive dissonance
they are getting quite good at organising divisive votes now
Paul Nuttall resigns from UKIP leadership....well he was going to struggle to lead a party whose membership could probably fit in one pub
My favourite manifesto was Lord Buckethead's - https://twitter.com/scottbix/status/873014998179745794 - just the right mix of ironic comedy and some really good progressive policies!
mine too
11 is quite cool
and this from someone closer to 80 than 16!
interesting - http://thesun.co.uk appear to have a map of a completely different election result on its homepage
the numbers are right, but the map seems rather blue
in england anyway - the tory gains from the SNP aren't there at all
ah, i think i may have been underestimating the amount of distortion the population scaling makes to the graun's map when i compared to thesuns's
in particular, scotland's warping is amazing
yes I saw that @peterwestmacott good news indeed
lol @minimal that lord buckethead video
@mccraigmccraig yeah it’s hilarious
I just wrote a macro and it worked first time. 😮
i am trying to write a regex and repeatedly failing 😿
First a hung parliament, then the DUP and then failing regexs. I need the weekend to come fast! 🙂
'sok @jasonbell - regex is fixed now - PEBKAC
@jasonbell cheer up: the weekend is almost here!
Ah well that’s a positive at least @mccraigmccraig 🙂
@thomas I’m pretty cheery, slides done for Kafka/Onyx/KafkaStreams talk tomorrow. It’s my ClojureX proposal talk run through, see what the reception is like.
@jasonbell oohhhh.... that sounds exciting.. good luck with that.... and I want to see the result sometime
Mornin' from across the pond!
Glad to know that the UK and the USA have something in common around their popular vote issue 😐
of course with more proportional representation there would be more UKIP seats won - they might be the biggest anomaly in that data
yeah, but PR would change voting patterns so difficult to tell. I like the votetillyouboak systems 🙂
well, i'm not the biggest core.async fan, but it did just sort my problems out nicely
