Morning :rain_cloud:

korny08:03:31

I learned to code on a ZX-81 - that had an awesome keyboard, far better than all this modern rubbish

Rachel Westmacott08:03:46

Even nostalgia isn’t what it used to be...

korny08:03:50

I made a joke about usenet newsgroup splits on a work slack, and no-one reacted - kids these days don't know the joys of rec.games.computer.ultima.dragons

benedek09:03:55

rubber keys, @korny ? my zxspectrum had them too. but then i had a spectrum+ with plastic keys...

korny09:03:37

the keyboard was a plastic sheet that was "touch sensitive" with almost no feedback at all

benedek09:03:59

so you can type on anything 😉

korny09:03:32

well, it wasn't touch sensitive like a modern screen - you still had to push down on the "buttons"

korny09:03:55

but yeah, it probably taught me all about trying to code on a tablet screen 🙂

benedek09:03:51

and the hardcore :throphy: goes to...

agile_geek09:03:33

It had a massive 1K of memory and (unlike the ZX81) it couldn't display on the TV and run calculations at the same time. So the screen went to 'snowstorm' when you ran something.

agile_geek09:03:35

It came in two versions, kit form (build it yourself) and prebuilt! I think kit form was about £10 cheaper - so it cost £89.99 or £99.99 (from memory). I remember saving up Christmas and Birthday money plus pocket money for months to get one.

korny09:03:21

I saved up from my paper run - from memory my parents matched me dollar-for-dollar. I think I was aiming for a ZX-80 but by the time I had the money the ZX-81 was out\

dominicm09:03:34

Ithink the iPhone had that problem

dominicm09:03:46

If you touched the screen it couldn't download the webpage you were on.

benedek09:03:10

so fav sinclair games? (and now we are completely on the nostalgia train)

geek-draven09:03:00

I could never get games to load on my ZX81, had to manually enter the code each time

benedek09:03:43

have to admit i never had a z81. i had a spectrum and spectrum+ and could load stuff from a casette player

geek-draven10:03:26

my friend had the spectrum, so I have fond memories of the Horace games and Harrier Attack

benedek10:03:21

i loved elite. and still play chaos sometimes on my phone

geek-draven10:03:03

Elite was fun

geek-draven10:03:46

I work with the guy that wrote the spectrum game Gladiator - he's no longer a programmer and works in UX

mccraigmccraig10:03:00

(tho on acorns rather than sinclair)

korny10:03:28

The Hobbit - I know a guy in Melbourne who was one of the developers on that

benedek10:03:43

wow i remember how excited i was about that game. being a big tolkien fun. never really played much with it at the end tho

thomas12:03:07

We had a TRS-80 from Radioshack. Typing Basic games from a book... took for ever.

geek-draven12:03:28

I probably spent more time entering the code than playing the game, but it was a good introduction to BASIC, although I didn't learn another language until a couple of years ago when otfrom made me learn Clojure 🙂

geek-draven12:03:31

I couldn't possibly comment 😃

mccraigmccraig12:03:05

it's not bullying if you eventually like it, is it @thomas ?

thomas12:03:54

maybe I should have called it something like leading/encouraging.

mccraigmccraig13:03:36

it's part of the same group of behaviours as 'voluntelling' i think... there should be some better words

minimal13:03:07

reeducation?

mccraigmccraig13:03:49

@minimal have you done cljs/sentry integration (i saw some relevant gists) ? not just the exception capture, i also want to create releases and upload source and source-maps - have you seen any boot tasks to do same ?

minimal13:03:14

haven’t done source maps yet, it just uses the ones uploaded to the site

martinklepsch13:03:22

@mccraigmccraig I have a few tasks, one sec

martinklepsch13:03:42

@mccraigmccraig would be awesome to have that as a package on clojars wink

minimal13:03:46

RAVEN_DSN=”" boot production build target -d cljs-out/advanced

otfrom13:03:54

gentle persuasion

minimal13:03:52

@martinklepsch nice, a lot more comprehensive. I’ve just been using a date based one and the implicit release creation on first error

mccraigmccraig13:03:30

thanks @minimal - i'll look at packaging @martinklepsch - since it looks like you've just saved me a bunch of time, i have some time to spend on it 😄

martinklepsch13:03:20

@minimal I think using a date is a great idea, probably better than git-sha or similarly “information-less"

minimal13:03:11

simple enough to get going

martinklepsch13:03:35

The source map stuff with Sentry is really it’s killer feature and why I wrote the above. You need the releases stuff to upload source maps so it was more of a side-effect of wanting source maps 🙂

minimal13:03:27

yeah. means you don’t have to make the source public

mccraigmccraig13:03:18

it also means that you can provide source maps for code deployed to mobile devices on file:/// urls

mccraigmccraig13:03:36

yeah, i've had the public source-map stuff working for a while on the web, but i'm getting some very unhelpful errors from android devices which could do with source-map magic

yogidevbear19:03:03

So I meant to ask earlier, how was the integrant talk last night?

mccraigmccraig19:03:54

good @yogidevbear - i got some ideas i can steal, inasmuch as one can steal open-sourced ideas

yogidevbear20:03:05

Real pity I missed it. Looked like it was going to be a good one
