Just saw a VIPgiven a Police escort thru

agile_geek08:01:12

the streets of Camden

agile_geek08:01:00

Didn't see who it was as I was down a side road and a bit far away but must have been someone of note as there were 3 Police bikes, two Landrovers and an unmarked police car but VIP was in a taxi. All very intriguing.

thomas08:01:45

she has something important to do today....

thomas08:01:17

which also means I am going to loose quite a bit of money today 😞

yogidevbear10:01:41

Morning. Not that anyone here is necessarily interest (as you're all probably pretty used to this stuff), but I've just connected the cljs repl to my browser for the first time. This is pretty cool

mccraigmccraig10:01:00

browser-repl is awesome @yogidevbear - i remember my first time 🙂

yogidevbear10:01:37

 This chapter 7 of Carin's book is a lot to take in

yogidevbear10:01:32

Ring, Compojure, JSON, CLJS, CLJS REPL...

yogidevbear10:01:11

Plus a macro slipped in without me noticing

thomas11:01:33

(sorry to bring it back to brexit)

glenjamin11:01:26

I don’t think I can bring myself to watch it live

glenjamin11:01:41

i’ll wait for someone to trim out the waffle and deliver the lowlights

Rachel Westmacott11:01:51

It's like a car crash - I don't want to see, but I can't look away.

kevin4211:01:21

She’s a master of recursion it might be short again

thomas11:01:23

I am just following on the guardian... but she keeps talking about britain... what about the people in NI. it affects them maybe even more?

mccraigmccraig12:01:23

we're all screwed @thomas (the rest of the EU too) - it's only a question of when and how badly. no politicians seem to be able to communicate the need to, or gather support for, taking short-term unpopular actions to stave off medium-to-long-term horror

mccraigmccraig12:01:53

brexit is but a symptom of a deeper malaise

thomas12:01:07

yup... sad but most likely true...

thomas12:01:59

definitely not a win-win... more the opposite.

thomas12:01:46

out of customs union and out of single market.... good luck folks.

thomas12:01:29

So NI and Scotland are getting screwed.

mccraigmccraig12:01:25

@thomas assuming that the supreme court overturns the high-court... if they don't and there has to be a parliamentary vote on triggering article 50, well - anybody's guess what happens afaics - tory majority is currently only 8, a free vote would probably be against triggering article 50, and who knows how many moderate tories would buck the whip

mccraigmccraig12:01:13

i'd love to see the mail/times/telegraph headlines in that case

thomas12:01:42

I suspect very few (tory) MP's are willing to vote against the referendum... that could be political suicide.

thomas12:01:26

but it would be interesting to see who would vote against art 50.

mccraigmccraig12:01:13

probably right, but it doesn't take many, and i think there is still such a beast as a principled tory

agile_geek12:01:25

The problem with MPs voting for short to medium term unpopular measures for long term good is its voting to lose your job in the next election...At which point the "other guy" will reverse what you voted for/against anyway.

thomas12:01:43

there might well be... who knows... would be quite interesting to see if that happened.

thomas12:01:02

on the bright side... the pound hasn't tanked (yet)... so hopefully keep it that way for 5 more weeks.

mccraigmccraig12:01:50

yeah, afaics the pound is at a week-long high vs $ & €

agile_geek12:01:06

The only winner from all this will be that the ultra wealthy 1% get wealthier either way. If we leave customs union and single market the economy will suffer but we'll become another tax haven in desperation to keep investment.

thomas12:01:08

but was also on a 4 week low earlier...

minimal12:01:24

and a 30 year low at the weekend

minimal12:01:35

¯\(ツ)/¯

thomas12:01:55

true @agile_geek .... but then I never really worried about the 1%...

mccraigmccraig12:01:32

@minimal which is great for export - i bet greece would love to be in this currency position

thomas12:01:42

but if the price of food/fuel etc. goes up and wages don't adjust (quickly) the poorer people will notice it most

minimal12:01:10

greece is a big loser in the euro for sure

thomas12:01:36

yes... that is the problem getting in on a bunch of lies...

thomas12:01:47

and brexit was also won on a bunch of lies..

thomas12:01:54

hmmmm makes you wonder....

mccraigmccraig12:01:02

@thomas that politicians & media perhaps might not always speak without forked tongues ?

thomas12:01:44

no... if there is a correlation.... ie. greece suffered badly because of the lies...

thomas12:01:15

how will UK fair based on a referendum won on lies.

thomas12:01:35

judging from the NHS situation in the papers not particular well so far.

mccraigmccraig12:01:15

greece suffered partly because of the lies - but mostly because the euro is badly designed

thomas12:01:33

why doesn't the press ask the politicians these questios.. Boris... you said that 350M would go to the NHS... why hasn't that happen yet?

thomas12:01:56

euro has it's problems... yes.. but greece never should have gotten in in the first place.

thomas12:01:09

(or Spain/portugal/italy)

mccraigmccraig12:01:46

true enough - but other currency federations (i.e. the dollar) cope fine with the basket case states... and relatively speaking there will always be basket-cases in any federation

otfrom13:01:29

The Euro is no worse designed than the US Dollar. The EU just needs to be more willing to do fiscal rather than monetary stimulus than it currently is

otfrom13:01:38

sigh... looks like a hard brexit then
