@agile_geek you need protein after that; I’d recommend a bacon butty.

agile_geek08:11:00

@paulspencerwilliams I'd need a 'naked' bacon butty...or just bacon! Gluten is not my friend!

otfrom08:11:35

agile_geek steak and eggs. I do miss that about the US

thomas08:11:00

morning.... I haven't even woken up properly and you guys talk about steak and eggs...

agile_geek08:11:32

@thomas steak and eggs is breakfast food in US!

otfrom08:11:13

agile_geek w/black coffee, yes

thomas08:11:40

I know... I might even have had it once... you don't need to eat for the rest of the week after having it.

thomas10:11:02

@korny any baby news (yet)?

korny10:11:36

nope - week 38 + 5, still waiting...

korny10:11:03

Working from home at the moment, and finding it very hard to concentrate on work 🙂

agile_geek10:11:33

When my second child was born I had literally just got off my motorbike, taken my helmet off and walked into the office when a colleague told me to go back home cos my wife was in labour! (no options to work from home then). Lucky it was my second otherwise concentrating on the ride home might have been a problem.

mccraigmccraig11:11:41

don't hold your breath @korny - i've waited for two first babys and they were 10 days and 4 days "late" respectively...

thomas12:11:39

first one was two weeks early, second baby was one day early.

mccraigmccraig12:11:05

the "late" "early" terminology always irked me... is the concept of a distribution that hard to grok that it must be erased from all communications ?

jonpither12:11:47

About to dive into AWS lambdas.. was hoping to sanity check with @benedek or anyone in the know if https://github.com/mhjort/clojider is a reasonable starting point

jonpither12:11:54

basically I want to use lambdas for load testing

benedek12:11:22

looks ok. never used it tho and never used lambdas for load testing either

benedek12:11:59

although lambdas are pretty cheap you might want to check the costs page in aws documenation before starting loadtesting for real?!

jonpither12:11:55

good advice 🙂

jonpither12:11:26

the thing I posted uses the funky uswitch lib https://github.com/uswitch/lambada

glenjamin12:11:41

oh awesome, AWS lambda finally gets separately configured environment variables!

benedek12:11:02

there is a catch tho. at least for me it is a catch. you can only change the values on the latest version

benedek12:11:46

and since i use qualifiers (aka alisases) for dev, staging, prod i can’t set different values for those different aliases

benedek12:11:55

unless i redeploy the lambda

benedek12:11:15

would be nice i could attach diff env values to diff qualifiers in other words

glenjamin12:11:06

oh, that’s annoying

glenjamin12:11:05

so you’d have to stop using aliases to identify environments in order to use env variables

korny13:11:30

@mccraigmccraig re: distribution curve - totally! Also it’s quite a flat curve - anywhere from 38 to 42 weeks is quite possible. Yet people describe 39 weeks as “early” and 41 weeks as “late” as if somehow human biology was a massively precise mechanism, identical for all women.

korny13:11:38

🙂 The real trouble is, dealing with the risks - at 42 weeks some pregnancies are genuinely “late” and risky, and some are probably still fine - but it gets tricky to tell the difference. So it tends to be “ok, time for induction / c-section” at that point. Hopefully we won’t get to that stage!

benedek14:11:08

@glenjamin well you can use aliases but you need to update the code (so deploy a new version) to have separate values

benedek14:11:47

so lets say my DEV point to version 9 with value foo=bar and my PROD needs to point to version 7 with foo=baz or something like this

benedek14:11:36

and when i want to promote version 9 to PROD I need to create version 10 so i can change foo to baz

glenjamin14:11:53

but then how would you put different config for prod vs dev?

glenjamin14:11:14

oh right, i see you attach config to a version+alias combo?

benedek14:11:15

yup if i understand right there is no other way

practicalli-johnny15:11:23

I have London Clojurians stickers for anyone at our events between now and ClojureX

thomas16:11:46

@glenjamin @benedek we just had a meeting about AWS lambda and apparently you can now set environment variables. This was added very recently.

thomas16:11:51

hope that helps

thomas16:11:10

The guys here just mentioned the same problem you had

benedek16:11:22

yup we are/were discussing this @thomas

benedek16:11:54

ah right, yeah, i guess we are not the only one using aliases for environments...

thomas16:11:22

sorry... didn't read all your comments I guess.

thomas16:11:36

anyway.. that is my cue to go home 🙂 ttfn

benedek16:11:31

have a nice one @thomas 🙂
