@jr0cket I don't feel very nationalistic atm so can we stay away from the Union Flag theme...also this is an ldnclj logo and London is not the UK. Perhaps something with a more London based theme?

glenjamin07:10:50

I reckon big ben with the clojure logo instead of the clock would be a good shout

glenjamin07:10:07

or the clojure logo with one of those palace guard hats on

seancorfield07:10:28

The LSUG logo hinted at the London Underground and I sympathized with that 🙂

glenjamin07:10:59

ok i’ll compromise - london underground style with a hat on

otfrom08:10:19

TfL get really arsey about underground style logos, but we're probably small enough they won't notice

malcolmsparks08:10:19

+1 Big Ben. Instantly recognisable.

agile_geek09:10:07

+1 Westminster Clock Tower - being pedantic (and I am) Big Ben is the bell and most ppl wouldn't recognise that! Another thought is Tower Bridge in sillouette behind Clojure logo or perhaps a sillouette of the cityscape?

otfrom09:10:23

unless you are a time traveller

davesnowdon10:10:15

@agile_geek yeah Big Ben (the bell) vs the clock tower is a continual source of irritation for my pedantic mind also 🙂 I should find more important things to annoy me

otfrom11:10:54

davesnowdon I'm finding it a relaxing thing to be annoyed about. The other things I'm annoyed about feel really, really bad atm

davesnowdon11:10:58

@otfrom yeah, I know what you mean

Rachel Westmacott13:10:06

I’m currently transitioning from a prescriptive to a descriptive view of language. If people call the tower ‘Big Ben’, then the tower is called ‘Big Ben’ (by those people).

otfrom13:10:41

peterwestmacott I agree, but being more pedantic that agile_geek is too much fun

Rachel Westmacott13:10:22

oh, pedantry is great fun - but if it starts annoying people (or yourself) then maybe its time to dial it back a bit

Rachel Westmacott13:10:41

I would never argue against correctness

glenjamin13:10:20

I’ve seen some people get extremely angry on the internet due to language prescriptivism

otfrom13:10:17

glenjamin sorry, that was probably me

glenjamin13:10:44

heh, I actually had someone continue the “discussion" in private chat, yelling at me

meshy13:10:46

*pedanticism troll

glenjamin13:10:53

saying i "missed an opportunity to learn"

mccraigmccraig13:10:22

it's morally acceptable to troll language prescriptivists isn't it ?

glenjamin13:10:31

because I used the word “property” instead of field/method in a JavaScript context

glenjamin13:10:59

and he said “erm no, it’s actually called a field”. And I linked to the spec, which shows it’s called a property.

otfrom13:10:22

agile_geek anyway, I don't think you are a pedant as you are capable of imagination. You are just interested in precision and accuracy. 😉

agile_geek13:10:53

otfrom: that's very.....exact of you 😉

otfrom13:10:50

agile_geek I try

agile_geek13:10:27

otfrom: yeah, you're very 'try'ing

otfrom13:10:40

that's what people say

bigkahuna15:10:28

I like that one.

bigkahuna15:10:54

I'd even be tempted to buy a t-shirt with that logo 😛

practicalli-johnny15:10:48

The rough idea behind the design is that the outer blue circle represents the M25 surrounding a green and vibrant Greater London. The lambda representing the major arteries (roads) through London. Alternatively, its a stylised clock-face representing the clock that surrounds Big Ben. Or its just something I knocked together whist I've had flu and got lucky with... (I wont show you any of the other dodgy designs I created)

glenjamin15:10:05

looks neat, would replacing the green bit with a stereotypical london photo be a bit too gimmicky?

practicalli-johnny15:10:15

open to suggestions for a sterotypical london photo... I guess a skyline of the city or westminster is fairly stereotypical... A picture in the green background would need to scale well...

glenjamin15:10:34

red bus driving over london bridge

practicalli-johnny15:10:25

I did think of doing a black cab with the Clojure logo on it...

practicalli-johnny15:10:06

but thats tricky to avoid making it look like a logo for a cab company 🙂

glenjamin15:10:35

I don’t think this is licensed for use, but something like this perhaps? http://www.universal-tourguide.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/discoverlondon.jpg

glenjamin15:10:39

might be a bit busy

practicalli-johnny16:10:27

needs to be significantly simpler for a logo... could maybe do a banner at a pinch. Need something more like http://www.clker.com/cliparts/9/6/4/f/13820102041341667680London%20Skyline.svg.hi.png

practicalli-johnny16:10:16

but that works much better for a banner than a logo... We could have the outer ring of the logo as the London eye...

agile_geek16:10:36

@jr0cket I quite like the blue/green logo but the M25, green and verdant Greater London explanation is a stretch 😉 Could we put the logo floating above the London skyline sillouette or do you think that's too complicated?

mccraigmccraig17:10:06

u could put the lambda in the london eye
