Swapped time zone already?

agile_geek08:10:54

morning folks

keithmantell08:10:00

Yer, Thomas just popped round to teach me this important concept! Still doesn’t explain his tardy attendance!!

agile_geek08:10:33

@keithmantell oh I never said he was timely 😉

thomas08:10:49

I was ill yesterday….

thomas08:10:01

and only managed to open my laptop around that time.

thomas08:10:15

first thing I did actually… just as each morning

agile_geek08:10:20

@thomas oh no. Hope you're feeling better today?

thomas08:10:04

yes… just this horrible cold going round. didn’t want to infect the people around me in the last few days I was here.

keithmantell08:10:47

@agile_geek He is rarely accused of that! @thomas OK, you have my grudging sympathy then

agile_geek08:10:27

@thomas when are you moving/starting new job?

keithmantell08:10:35

@thomas make sure you are well by next Friday!

thomas08:10:56

21st is my last day here at big blues… and I start on Nov 1st in Rotterdam.

thomas08:10:13

the week between will be spend looking for houses and schools etc.

thomas08:10:36

plan is that the family comes over around christmas...

thomas08:10:24

our house here is on the market and all I really hope for is that David Davis shuts up on the day I am going to transfer my € to £.

thomas08:10:28

so 7 more working days…. WOOHOOO 🎉

keithmantell12:10:37

@thomas please try not to be so obviously happy about leaving us!

thomas12:10:54

@keithmantell you would be happy as well if you left you.

otfrom13:10:02

agile_geek I think the tricky bit w/spec is figuring out what properties should hold true for your function that are actually useful

otfrom13:10:27

though thinking of a few examples first might drive that out

agile_geek13:10:10

otfrom: agreed. I'm thinking REPL driven investigation then codified into spec/generated tests if obvious with an optional example-based test if required. I still feel generative testing can't test everything[1] so I would still have some specific example-based tests. [1] even where it can sometimes the 'cost' of developing complex generators is not worth effort

otfrom13:10:59

agile_geek I think they go well together. I think the generative testing (if you can reason through your functions properties) can give you much better coverage than thinking up fuzz or corner cases on your own.
