wow. that was one rough sunday in politics

martintrojer07:10:12

hard brexit it is

martintrojer07:10:31

congrats @thomas for getting out in time.

martintrojer07:10:16

the tories are determined to ruin the economy

thomas08:10:04

well… I still got £’s that need to convert to €’s …

thomas08:10:46

but… yes, I expect a hard brexit now as well… no FoM, single market access.

thomas08:10:14

More said days for Britain IMHO. and the poorest are going to pay for this unfortunately all based on a bunch of lies

martintrojer08:10:49

A big recession is part of the tory agenda. They can finally kill off the NHS, state pensions, various other public services while lowering the taxes for the rich

martintrojer08:10:45

Hard Brexit will also auto-solve the immigration problem, since UK will face an emigration problem.

benedek08:10:19

the forking the eu laws sounds funny tho...

benedek08:10:17

can't really decide if its a dumb or a genial idea

thomas08:10:10

@benedek it is very simple…just git clone brussels and then start making you own changes 😉

benedek08:10:21

what about upstream changes?

benedek08:10:39

surely eu laws are not static...

benedek08:10:59

and then merge conflicts?

reborg08:10:29

I suppose cherry-pick the one you like the most and leave the rest 😄

benedek08:10:09

right. does not help the uk much, or?

glenjamin08:10:42

that part sounds not rediculous from a practical get-things-moving point of view

glenjamin08:10:14

it effectively unblocks the internal stuff so they can focus on really fucking up all the external stuff

benedek08:10:38

nice way to put it @glenjamin

martintrojer09:10:16

I'm going to drown my sorrows in some purescript today

spike10:10:22

anyone got any good exit plans? i'm considering trying to swing a move stateside in the next few years (pending result of the US election)

spike10:10:33

otherwise... where's good in europe?

thomas10:10:53

@spike I am going back the Netherlands… mainly because that is where my wife and I are from. And the children are young enough (8 and 6) and already bi-lingual.

thomas10:10:44

I think I would have liked Germany as well, but my wife wasn’t too keen on it (I would have been the only one speaking the language)

thomas10:10:50

Denmark/Sweden sound very good as well… except for the long winters. @martintrojer do you have any comments on going to the Scandinavian countries?

minimal10:10:41

Do those countries have high quality, innovative British jam though?

thomas10:10:35

no idea.. jam is not my thing. All I need is Nutella.

glenjamin11:10:52

Canada is looking pretty good lately

glenjamin11:10:09

The seeming complete lack of employee rights puts me off the US

martintrojer11:10:37

I'm from Malmo which winters I'd describe at "Scottish". Not great, but the summers are better (IMHO). But ofc just one of many variables in play

martintrojer11:10:29

(And my family is Swedish bi-lingual so no big roadblocks for the big homecoming)

korny12:10:55

still waiting for this graph to see how high it can get: http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=AUD&to=GBP&view=1Y 🙂

korny12:10:37

Most of what I know about Malmo comes from “The Bridge” - it’s all about racial tensions and murders, right? 🙂

korny12:10:52

(no spoilers please, I’m only up to episode 8 of season 1)

thomas13:10:28

@korny how long do you think before there will be parity?

thomas13:10:57

I could have bought like a mansion last year.

thomas13:10:05

just a garage now...

martintrojer15:10:37

So how much do you think the government have to pay Nissan for not closing the factory in Sunderland?

thomas15:10:00

nothing… it is in Sunderland and there are no tory voters in Sunderland… so they won’t care.

martintrojer15:10:23

I'd say the PR loss of them closing it worth closing a couple of NHS hospitals (to avoid)

martintrojer15:10:00

but you are right, the eaton boys in government couldn't care less about sunderland.

jasonbell16:10:57

Sunderland is north of Watford Gap, that’s basically the line.

thomas18:10:20

@martintrojer the Eaton boys are gone (for the moment). But that doesn’t solve the problem I think.
