I’m wondering if there's a concept of over confident and mediocre programmer in the c2 wiki (http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WelcomeVisitors)

kevin4209:09:04

I know it’s not a pattern but I’m seeing it too much often

kevin4209:09:15

Sorry that was my rant of the morning

mccraigmccraig09:09:01

i was once one of those @kevin42 ! hopefully it got beaten out of me

kevin4209:09:45

I was or am mediocre too maybe but not over confident

kevin4209:09:51

maybe that’s the trick

mccraigmccraig09:09:10

yeah, beginners mind is key i think

@agile_geek I’ve been looking at the mob programming and found an interview with Woody Zuill https://www.infoq.com/interviews/zuill-mob-programming and it looks very interesting, I like the concept with no estimates and wondering now if I can take one or two ideas from it. Have you read the book?

glenjamin10:09:49

there’s a book? I thought it was more of a hashtag

glenjamin10:09:27

oh right, i thought you meant a noestimates book

kevin4210:09:50

I was hoping to see a few idea linked to the no estimate in the book.

agile_geek10:09:53

I've not read either book but I've followed the whole no estimates thing in blogs and talks for years. I was talking to Woody after his talk a few weeks ago about the parallels between his ideas and Fred George's developer anarchy stuff. They developed similar ideas on parallel and independently and didn't meet until about 10 months ago at a conference. Woody is an incredibly nice guy and a great speaker. I'm hoping he may be over here in uk in January and i can get him to talk at SkillsMatter.

kevin4210:09:21

I don’t know about the developer anarchy thing too, sounds like I’ve got a few things to read/watch over the weekend, thanks. Woody in SkillsMatter sounds good, let us know 🙂

glenjamin11:09:20

my take on noestimates is that understanding why an estimate is desired is useful. And makes a big difference to the sort of answer you can give

kevin4213:09:00

Yeah that’s a good question

kevin4213:09:08

And what are the alternatives of doing an estimate. Which is a fair question as sometimes you know the budget in advance.
