Morning šŸ˜ƒ

dominicm07:07:26

@agile_geek: What time is your train in the morning? I have to catch mine at 07:22 and I'm south of you!

agile_geek07:07:17

I commute down on Monday morning and back on Friday. It's over 3.5 hours door to door so can't do it every day.

agile_geek07:07:04

I normally catch 7:04am Flying Scotsman train on Mon morning. Get's me to office by about 10am

agile_geek07:07:40

But I was WFH yesterday so caught 6pm train last night.

dominicm07:07:14

@agile_geek: ah, for some reason I thought you did it daily and you were able to jump on a fast line. My Dad does something similar, but he drives. Wales -> London. He stays in Reading most of the week, so still has a commute in the morning.

agile_geek08:07:47

@dominicm: Flying Scotsman is fastest train. Non stop from Newcastle. Takes 2hours 40 mins with a fair wind.

dominicm08:07:10

@agile_geek: *super duper fast line I mean that got you there in 1h30/2h or so. Will the new line going in help your life at all?

agile_geek08:07:35

Nope there is no plan for a fast line to Newcastle

agile_geek08:07:11

And it's close to 300 miles so it can only be so fast

thomas09:07:53

@agile_geek: why doesnā€™t it surprise me that the wind has influence on the train times šŸ˜‰

agile_geek09:07:46

@thomas: and the wrong kind of Sun, rain, leaves, etc.

thomas09:07:27

aaah ok.. makes sense now...

thomas09:07:40

btw.. I am coming to proclodo tomorrow!

agile_geek09:07:33

Cool šŸ˜„

thomas10:07:51

yesā€¦ looking forward to itā€¦ anything I can prepare before hand?

korny11:07:11

My wife is working in Stockport (near Newcastle) 2-3 days a week - she alternates between staying over and coming home, itā€™s about 90 minutes so borderline...

korny11:07:28

oops s/Newcastle/Manchester

glenjamin11:07:57

Where are you that stockport is only 90 mins away?

practicalli-johnny12:07:18

Just a reminder that we have a call for papers currently open for the 6th London Clojure conference in December. Please consider submitting a talk so that @agile_geek doesnt have to do a talk on Clojure punch-cards http://jr0cket.co.uk/2016/07/Call-for-Speakers-London-Clojurian-conference-2016.html Thank you.

korny13:07:08

@glenjamin: Milton Keynes. Actually Wolverton, which is one stop north, but MK is 5 minutes away

agile_geek13:07:45

@korny: almost a Northerner then šŸ˜‰

agile_geek13:07:22

from down-under obviously!

dominicm13:07:02

Where does Leicester put me on the Northerner scale?

agile_geek13:07:23

Hey, as far as I'm concerned the North starts at York! That means even @glenjamin isn't a Northerner!

glenjamin13:07:17

city-wise, derby and notts are midlands

glenjamin13:07:26

anything north of that is actualt north in my book

dominicm13:07:28

I think you were replying to something else @agile_geek šŸ˜›

dominicm13:07:35

I lived in Exeter for a while, when I told the Clojure group I was moving. They asked where Leicester was, I said "North" as I was somewhat ambiguous myself. The Scotsman proclaimed "North of what!"

agile_geek13:07:45

I've had people who think Newcastle is in Scotland before!

dominicm14:07:05

"Wales? Oh that's in England isn't it?"

dominicm14:07:09

That's my favourite.

agile_geek14:07:09

Yeah most Americans think London and England are synonymous. I'll not count @otfrom in that statement as he's a real Northerner (Yorkshireman)

minimal14:07:26

And our new Brexit minister thinks ā€œSouthern Irelandā€ is still in the UK

agile_geek14:07:46

Just he had misfortune to be brought up in the Chicago area of US

dominicm14:07:19

Oh yeah. My girlfriend's American shows had someone go to England for a university interview at Oxford. The overshot of her being in Oxford was parliament.

agile_geek14:07:49

Hmm, failed History and Geography then. I seem to remember a few nasty battles fought over that one

agile_geek14:07:05

My favourite Foreign Secretary gaff was Robin Cook. He invited Irish PM to Foreign Office and left portrait of Cromwell on his office wall!

glenjamin14:07:32

to be fair, oxford and parliament have similar architecture

agile_geek14:07:27

If you know your Anglo-Irish history, think of the German Foreign Sec. inviting the PM of Israel to his office with a portrait of Hitler on wall!

minimal14:07:28

Iā€™m sure there are plenty of Foreign Sec gaffs to come

glenjamin14:07:59

at least itā€™s sunny today

agile_geek14:07:49

@glenjamin: that's it Glen look on the bright side ā˜€ļø

thomas14:07:44

anything north of Andover is north in my bookā€¦.

thomas14:07:16

and yes, feel free to look that up on the map

thomas15:07:13

and I have recruited another IBMā€™er for the clojure groupā€¦ yeah.

paulspencerwilliams15:07:17

So what time are you leaving for WM_JUG @agile_geek?

agile_geek15:07:36

I'm on my way now. Didn't want to leave it too late

agile_geek15:07:43

Typical my carriage on train has broke. A/C! I'm going to smell when I get there so apologise!

agile_geek15:07:52

Moved carriage before I melted. I'm not built for heat. Now negative temps I can do!

xlevus15:07:44

I can deal with high temps. It's just got to have low humidity.

xlevus15:07:16

and airflow

paulspencerwilliams15:07:52

Have you got a lift from the station? No where you're going? If not, I can pick u up from New St?

agile_geek16:07:08

@paulspencerwilliams Oh fun. Train is terminating in Coventry as it's too hot to safely carry on. I've still got a bit of time but may be a bit late

paulspencerwilliams16:07:40

Keep us in the loop. If you need a lift...
