I do wonder how the NRA is going to spin this

agile_geek07:07:45

@martintrojer: considering the news from Dallas? Simple. They'll say "See they're even shooting at police officers, we ALL need guns to protect ourselves, preferably high velocity assault weapons in case of sniper attack. Now, if those police officers had had tanks..." with no regard to the fact that the officer were obviously armed. No one can ever accuse them of being logically consistent.

agile_geek07:07:36

UK is politically self destructing while US seems insistent on shooting as many of it's citizens as possible.

korny07:07:05

And Australia can’t make up it’s mind 🙂

martintrojer08:07:24

So the violence escalation between the US police and the 'we need to protect ourselves' miltias are really kicking off now

otfrom09:07:18

militias in the US are a distinct political movement. I'm not sure about the details around this one yet

Clojure O’Clock…. yeah

thomas15:07:50

hmm trying to add the clj/cljs reader conditionals to my code… but getting this error now:

thomas15:07:06

clojure.lang.ExceptionInfo: clojure.lang.ExceptionInfo: ERROR: Feature should be a keyword: [clojure.algo.generic.math-functions :as mathf]

thomas15:07:48

I just don’t get it

glenjamin15:07:12

is the problem that you can’t have multiple forms?

mccraigmccraig15:07:40

yeah, he needs to use #?@ to splice the multiple forms

thomas15:07:03

would be nice if the examples here made that clearer: http://clojure.org/guides/reader_conditionals

thomas15:07:29

but let me try that….

agile_geek16:07:18

Is it perverse that a want to set up an #clojure-eu channel? Maybe I should hold a referendum in here about whether it's a good idea?

korny16:07:54

Are we still allowed to go to euroclojure? :-}

korny16:07:14

(Not going this year, sadly, as my wife is going to be very pregnant by then)

agile_geek16:07:14

I thought that too. I think we are ok going this year and next but not sure after that? Have to apply for euroclojure visa?

korny16:07:53

Well, I didn’t have a UK passport to start with, so realistically the only actual problem is I need to make sure my accent is audible so I don’t get hate for being English 🙂

agile_geek16:07:01

@korny: congrats on the little korny

korny16:07:07

thanks! 🙂

agile_geek16:07:19

I'm English/Welsh as far back as I can go on my family tree and I'm about as British looking as they come so no chance for me!

agile_geek16:07:38

Although I could work on my Scottish accent I suppose

korny16:07:15

I have a Scottish grandmother, so I might go for a Scot passport once they leave 🙂

otfrom17:07:55

seancorfield: whereabouts in Norn Iron?

otfrom17:07:50

(and I have no idea what is going to go on there. Brexit is a bit of a clusterf* for NI)

seancorfield17:07:22

For… reasons… I’m not sure quite where I was born. I believe it was Ballymoney, but I had a medical condition at birth that got me moved to Belfast Children’s Hospital almost immediately. We lived in Ballymoney, then moved to Coleraine. My grandparents lived in Ballymena for a while.

otfrom17:07:43

my wife is from Ballycastle on the north coast

otfrom17:07:58

I've been around Coleraine quite a lot

seancorfield17:07:22

We lived on Strand Rd, across the river from the town.

seancorfield17:07:37

I was born in ’62 and the family moved back to the mainland at the end of the 60’s — my father had drawn too much attraction from the IRA because he was an Englishman with connections, running an engineering factory in N.I. 😞

otfrom17:07:45

not sure what it has been like in the last 2wks or so, but things have improved a lot there (I started going in 1992) over the last 24yrs or so.
