Morning
glenjamin: whether or not someone from Northern Ireland is British is a very politically loaded question
so, the 'platforms' of the tory-leader-runners are coming in. Seems like free movement is out
thus open market is out one would assume
yeah, also, point system for sure.
so when they elect a new PM, we (as in my family) will probably know wether to sell the house and move
it makes sense for them to take a hard stance on free-movement. 'get the foreigners out' was the main thrust of the leave campaign after all.
Re: Northern Ireland. I thought that as a geographical term NI is not part of GB (the island) that happens to have the countries England, Scotland and Wales on it…. political things of course do not align to this.
your right it's not. NI comes in when you go up to United Kingdom. Great Britain being England, Wales + Scotland.
but people in Northern Ireland call them selves, British, Irish, Northern Irish or "Fuck off I don't want to talk about it"
I like to think in geographical terms, that is something I kinda understand at least and (hopefully) avoids the political laden, bound to offend someone cultural/political(?) terms.
Great, Stephen Crabb (the in-the-running-PM) thinks homosexuality is a sickness that can be cured.
maybe I’ll get a big house in NL and rent out rooms to British people who want to flee.
yeah, who are we kidding, its going to be BoJo
Boris hasn't taken a hard stance on free-movement yet tho
thomas: I am thinking in geographical terms, political geography. 😉 There it is Northern Ireland, the UK, Britain, The North of Ireland, Ireland, Ulster, The 6 counties. And that is all pretty fraught too. (I'm married to someone from NI btw)
I thought 'the British Isles' was uncontentious until I moved to Ireland (the 26 counties). Even saying '26 counties' can get you into a lot of trouble in some places. Best avoid talking
the loss of passporting of the banks in the city will trickle down to the london tech scene quickly
(and its not good news)
martintrojer: yeah, read about that before the vote
seriously, I can't understand the people running for the next PM. It is a totally impossible job.
No matter what, you'd be the destroyer of the UK in the history books.
I think that's exactly why Cameron handed the job on!
I suspect BoJo has been cursing that since Cameron announced he wouldn't enact article 50
I have a t-shirt with:
(let [+ (fn [& args] 5)] (+ 2 2))
=> 5
printed on it(defn compensate-for-off-by-one [val]
((rand-nth [inc dec]) val))
(compensate-for-off-by-one (+ 2 2))
martintrojer: have you open sourced that yet? I reckon there's a market for it
glenjamin: last time I looked my current client just dropped all the decimal places on the floor, swished them around, picked a few up and added them back in again
FYI over in #C04V12NPC alex miller just said that there is the opportunity to pay a little extra in order to sponsor opportunity grants.
