interesting discussion above. thanks guys

yogidevbear08:04:22

Totally agree with Thomas. It's the busiest chat I've seen on this channel since joining the clojure slack group

thomas08:04:17

@martintrojer: maybe you should do a talk about big clj(s) apps sometime and tell us what wrong with and what you think needs to be done to improve it. I think many people would find it interesting to hear it.

otfrom08:04:30

usually it is just a series of UGTs, occasionally we actually discuss things. 😄

thomas08:04:02

and for that we need you @otfrom, as MC 😉

martintrojer08:04:38

let me get a handful of chapters of this series under my belt.

martintrojer08:04:53

Elm is next, so directly related to the UI / cljs problems

otfrom08:04:38

thomas: ah, lots of people can MC. I'd turn up to the talk though.

glenjamin09:04:52

Anyone see the Amazon Ion thing today? Seems like a not-as-good transit 😕

maleghast13:04:33

@otfrom: Hello there… If you’re interested in Erlang but haven’t gotten into the ribs of it yet, why not consider Elixir..? Nicer syntax, immutable state and pure functional are front and centre but you get the OTP stuff as well…? Just a thought… I’ve not dived into it yet, but I have been dancing around it for about 9 months and I am finally using it to write a prototype API...

maleghast13:04:52

I can let you know if I run into any bad / horror, but at the moment I am finding it very lovely, FWIW...

otfrom13:04:32

maleghast: you can't tell me that Elixir has a nicer sytnax than lfe. You have to remember that I like lisps

maleghast13:04:02

Oh sorry, I meant nicer syntax (by a country mile) than PO Erlang simple_smile

maleghast13:04:16

no idea what lfe is but I am going to have to find out now… (@otfrom)

otfrom13:04:32

lisp flavoured erlang

maleghast13:04:36

@otfrom: You’ve just tipped me down what I can only assume is going to be a Glorious Rabbit Hole!

maleghast13:04:54

(yes, I was already reading the website)

maleghast13:04:29

FWIW, still think Elixir is kinda nice, and a lot easier for me to context-switch to with my new(ish) gig being about 80% Python

maleghast13:04:40

but this is definitely going to get some of my attention now.

maleghast13:04:49

In about 20 minutes I will have an lfe REPL - I need to update Homebrew before I install it… 😉

maleghast15:04:25

@thomas: It’s lovely...

maleghast15:04:31

(Homebrew ftw)

martintrojer16:04:48

Elixir looks nice, but you know dynlang, so I'll skip it

otfrom16:04:31

martintrojer: I'm starting to think we could create a trojerbot 😛

otfrom17:04:44

martintrojer: so what is the production ready sufficiently typed language?

martintrojer17:04:58

not going to get in bed with another dynlang. Very happy with Clojure covering my needs in that department

martintrojer17:04:22

production ready alternative? Depends, backend or frontend

martintrojer17:04:20

it is the quest I’ve set out to find

martintrojer17:04:34

one of my guilty pleasures; watching http://emacsrocks.com over and over and over again

mccraigmccraig18:04:29

@otfrom: production ready ? pah, where's your gumption ?

otfrom21:04:33

@mccraigmccraig: what I like about clojure is that I can get shit done and move on

otfrom21:04:07

I like having fun programming, but I don't program for its own sake tbh
