Groetjes! 👋
Hey guys, we just got back from the Hackathon. We had a great experience and worked really hard to build something pretty interesting! I started with little to no sleep because I just landed the evening before in Brussels, had to drive during the night to Utrecht and get up at 6:00 to go to Den Haag. Developing the idea took us until 20:30 to start writing some code, but then the architecture design remained problematic until about 1:00. Then I worked until 6:30 this morning to implement the basic networking stuff, During the night as well I was met by complexities, race conditions, sudden failures in our Date library that worked without issues for a year at 4:00, alone in an empty hall with no sleep is something that would make anyone mad argh!! I then slept on a couch with a note saying 'please wake me up at 7:00'. From 7:00 I hacked non stop until 15:00 for the presentations, and @kevin.van.rooijen Nanhekhan started implementing an AI feature on top. The last hour some really strange stuff was breaking as @kevin.van.rooijen Nanhekhan would attest. At noon we were joined by @architect Mooijman which helped us out with the slides. The demo was feature complete with 3 minutes on the clock! Unfortunately the AI feature was not implemented but it was demo'able. After all that the presentations were roughly timed at 4:00, and we started talking with only 3:30 on the clock, there were interruptions like a gong going off and I had only 7 seconds left to demo. At 0:00 they say 'TIMES UP' not even letting you finish your sentence which was very frustrating and wasn't even allow to show a small bit. I felt this was very unfair, and expressed my distaste in this approach to the jury which they seemed to understand. After 5 minutes I let it go though and enjoyed the cool stuff everyone built! But all in all, we built some cool features, explored a lot of possibilities within our platform, made some interesting connections and heard inspiring things, which to me was the goal anyway, and the winners had built pretty cool stuff.
