good afternoon

skuro10:07:02

no comments about the Cognitect acquisition yet in here? :-)

Kevin10:07:18

I think it's pretty interesting. Fun fact, Plataformatec, the company where Elixir was created, was also acquired by Nubank. Although Elixir was already considered an independent project by that time iirc.

borkdude10:07:23

why does Nubank buy an Elixir consulting company?

Kevin10:07:37

No idea, happened early this year

gklijs10:07:58

Don't really know what to think of it. They say it's all good. But it reminds me much of BloomReach taking over Hippo, and that didn't end that well. But enough things are different.

skuro11:07:30

oh boy, the times when I was working at a Hippo subsidiary 🙂

gklijs18:07:36

I still get to hear some horror stories of my colleagues, breaking changes, stuck on Java 8, and open source software being kind of stolen 😭. I'm glad I left it a few years ago.

skuro11:07:58

but yeah things seem different

skuro11:07:42

to me it's an interesting perspective to see a bank investing on niche technologies (I assume they're also heavily invested into elixir), acquihiring their makers

skuro11:07:08

I could imagine that "risk mitigation" could be an important factor in such strategy

I read Nubank is valued at 10 billion USD. They definitely have the money to vertically integrate like this

borkdude12:07:17

Maybe it's about time to give up the word "niche" for Clojure? 😉

Dmytro Bunin12:07:46

famous in clojued circle, nah doesn’t work

Dmytro Bunin12:07:13

seeing myself out

Ruben.Hamers13:07:31

woah totally missed the acquisition:laughing:

skuro14:07:55

"established" doesn't mean "wildly used", I still think Clojure is quite niche
