so far I was trying to setup a presentation and use youtube streaming for that, since I don't know of any free tool that I can use for something similar
I hear good things about https://jitsi.org/jitsi-meet/
Can setup own server
Jitsi has I think bit less out-of-the-box than youtube video conferencing and takes more setup, but seems more privacy-preserving and less surveillance capitalism. Depending on the needs.
also, hangouts require everyone to join with their google account which I have to know so that I can setup the hangouts
those are two separate issues. I've been on several hangouts in the past weeks with 20+ people. but you just cannot broadcast the stream to youtube anymore.
The biggest drawback with YouTube is having a half minute delay + the viewers can only interact by typing. I hardly had any interaction last friday. I understand the drawbacks of hangouts, but as presenter is much nicer if you can at least see (some) people, and don't have such a delay.
I don't think I actually arrived at anything useful, although with a bit of luck I'll be able to use OBS with Hangouts tomorrow
@hobosarefriends I have used hangouts many times, I think I'll be good tomorrow
here's what my plan is in terms of having the event live: ā¢ I'll share the meetup link here and through meetup / downtomeet ā¢ we'll be meeting there with whomever wants to interact with each other ā¢ I'll also have the event streamed to youtube for the future generation of clojure developers that want to laugh at us š
