@adam622 I have a small software company this is building a job-shop system in clj/cljs/re-frame, which is most of what we do in clojure. This is a legacy system that is getting replaced. I also do a considerable amount of cljs work on node.js on ras-pis that are used to run escape-rooms. Also hack C++ for a MajOilCo as my day job, but that's another story.

@hoppy awesome! Does the job-shop system involve embedded systems? It just now occurred to me that cljs could be used on microcontrollers via something like https://github.com/neonious/lowjs (in Elixir-land, they do this with https://nerves-project.org). I've spent some time with https://www.balena.io on the Raspberry Pi (Balena deploys software to IoT devices using containers as a packaging format).

You got me curious...landed on https://mryslab.github.io/python_banyan/#and-now-for-something-totally-different-adding-a-javascript-banyan-compatible-module-to-the-application via https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-escape-room. Would love to know if you're using a toolkit/framework with nodejs for the escape room work. At work I am building a Rasperry Pi-based system for tracking people who enter a nightclub (it's a loyalty points scheme).

The controller we built is our own design.

It's more of a framework for light industrial automation, which is kind of what the complex escape rooms are.

we have a lot of ESP based props that bark things on mqtt, and the room controller kind of orchestrates all that.

Interesting. For home automation, I use MQTT to integrate my (legacy) usage of SmartThings with Home Assistant (open-source hub)

I'm Chris Oakman. I live inside the loop near Shepherd and Washington. My career has primary been UI design and development. I learned ClojureScript ~6 years ago now and very happy with that decision 😎

Recently left the ThreatGrid team at Cisco where I did CLJS for the last ~3 years or so. I am currently contracting with a startup in the Med Center that is moving an Angular 1.x app over to re-frame.

I also teach part-time at DigitalCrafts - https://www.digitalcrafts.com They are based out of HEADQUARTERS co-working space in EaDo, but moving to The Cannon near City Center in April. If we ever wanted to host a meetup I could volunteer the classroom space 👍🏻

@chrisoakman do you use cljs only for frontend or also with nodejs?

I have done both. But primarily use it on the frontend.

Are there ever any Houston Clojure meetups? I know Nelson used to run one, but I was never able to attend with a scheduling conflict. I sometimes go to the Houston Functional Programmer's Meetup https://www.meetup.com/Houston-Functional-Programmers/
