good morning
So now I'm in both #C068E9L5M2Q and #C0B7Q4XRM1U. Both are (obviously) biased in different directions. I wish this class of technology wasn't so contentious. I guess there is a silent majority that isn't in either camp, though.
No, you must pick a side and be angry with people on the other side, or both sides will be mad at YOU for fence sitting
I contain multitudes, and can therefore sit on both sides of the fence simultaneously while getting mad at myself for doing so
Fanaticism is never good. I guess one side has bred some questionable behavior more than the other but there's a lot of generalization around.
I think conviction is helpful to bring forward new stuff, early adopters trying out new tech in all weird and different ways. That conviction seeps into personal identity, and poof, we've lost nuance. It hurts when you're in the middle of it , "just please stop hitting each other!"
as I'm trying really hard to avoid the conversations in #C0B7Q4XRM1U would it be possible to keep these kinds of conversations there? I'd hate to be accused of being a fanatic here, and the debates on this really aren't good for me. (I am not a moderator, this isn't anything official. I'm just trying to preserve a good mood)
Maybe we should ask for a new #ai-schizophrenics
Or just do some work
Silent majority huh? Not a super framing imho - itβs usually a placeholder on to which you can project anything. I have views and I also think that these short form posts are pretty useless in elucidating what is actually important.
@raymcdermott I just frame it the way I personally understand it. Not sure how I could do it any other way. I am sorry you disagree, but that doesn't really change how I see the split. @otfrom Sure. But that sort of illustrates my point quite well, though, doesn't it?
My point is that you β¦ and nobody else for that matter β¦ understand what any silent majority wants. It's a rhetorical device. Something to think about.
Including you
I find yours a needlessly hostile reply to a fairly neutral comment of mine. There's no need to dig deep to find spite that isn't there.
(Oh no - the hitting of one another has commenced - exiting gracelessly)
@simongray yes, me included. I wanted to challenge your perspective and I'm sorry it came over as hostile.
Thanks for acknowledging that. I don't mind your point of view at all, Ray (and I see your point), but it can be conveyed differently is all I'm saying.

Morning! I'd like to re-post @ben.slessβs https://clojurians.slack.com/archives/CBJ5CGE0G/p1667477362900809?thread_ts=1667452133.056919&cid=CBJ5CGE0G that I really enjoyed, and still think of from time to time (such as today). > Impose limitations and eliminate variance > A technique used by artists and monks. > Elimination of all mental noise leaves room for flourishing. > But we must accept the limits of personal capabilities
long day is long...
