Been waiting for so long, but they finally showed up when I came home from the emergency room yesterday. I planted two different kinds of beans in the same spot so I wonder what these ones will look like once they start turning into pods.
good morning βοΈ

one of the problems with milk that is delivered overnight is that even with a cool box, in the shade, with an ice pack, you can still spoil the milk before you get it
Switch to lactose free? Not sure about temperature, but it lasts a lot longer.
not on offer from our local dairy. It is usually not a problem, but this summer is particularly warm. I might need a better cool box
#govegan ;)
That would work too
And those packages are paper
still nice that they are delivering local fresh products to your door
Yep. Good local strawberries this summer too
We've had to switch to lactose free because of one of my kids, and the result has been suprisingly positve. (lasts longer, of course, but is also better suited for whipping cream or steaming or whatever)
put a tiny mini fridge outside and a note asking them to put the milk inside π
would that work for the local beer brewery as well?
why not? Is the beer afraid of milk?
I mean, do they deliver in otfrom's town. it's getting more interesting by the minute. I imagine some picturesque little town in... what was it Scotland?
like, milk in the morning, fresh cold brew in the evening :)
both solved by JIT delivery using drones
yes, Scotland
I think the licensing laws might be the hiccup in beer delivery
> both solved by JIT delivery using drones that completely spoils the "picturesque little town" image
If drone delivery is going to be thing locally, then I'm investing in artillery.
lots of drones round here. Could work. Drones are a reasonable solution for Scotland, but we do have Leuchars airbase and Dundee airport to contend with
It isn't bad here for a suburb of Dundee https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monifieth
We like it
I guess isn't nice and cool there now?
18.5 at the end of my driveway according to the weather station there: https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/IDUNDE87
the house hold one to heat though so it is taking its time cooling down from 26C inside
aaah yes, the milkman in summer was a bit of an issue. I do remember that.
now more then 20 years ago...
My Dad was telling me the milkman would come right in and put the milk in the fridge. Theyβd leave a coin on the table for him. Same idea with the iceman.
dang... where and when was that?
When a child doesn't resemble the father, a Dutch saying is: "I guess you are one of the milk man"
Montreal, Canada in the 1930s.
aah ok. small community I guess?
somehow reminds me of the bank strike in the late '60 early '70 in Ireland. the economy actually grew because the landlords of all the pubs knew exactly who to trust and who not.
Well not really. Just different times. Delivery was by horse drawn carts.

What are the white patches on the leaves, fungus? I have pumpkin and I noticed white spots on some of the leaves.
good question ... I'm not sure
looks like this https://www.rocketgardens.co.uk/powdery-mildew-classic-courgette-illness/
Quick internet search says its a mildew.
so I guess it was a hydration issue
yep i saw that article.
π
looks like it's not a big issue ππΌ
I planted a lot of decorative pumpkins last year and it didn't affect the produce. But the leaves looked sickly.
not so decorative π
haha, the promise was decorative pumpkins not leaves:stuck_out_tongue:
very cute π
Suspended in a beam light (narrated in the voice of Carl Sagan).
I see S. England has dropped several degrees since yesterday and is continuing to trend down over the weekend. How are the rest of y'all doing? When will be past the peak temps?
Peak in π§πͺ is tomorrow 38C, Sunday will be more bearable.
38C in π³π± too
It's been at least 38Β°C here in France since Monday, relief is coming this weekend π
ππΊ anticipating 39-40 this weekend. "cold" front expected next Wed
Yikes! Stay hydrated and in the shade, folks!! Do you at least have fans to more the hot air around? @borkdude you just had A/C installed, yes?
yep, A/C just in time...
I also spend a lot of time this week in the public library which is nice and cool, 15 minute walk
I am fortunate to have been able to build (or rather, have a contractor build) our house a few years ago. Brick, as is usual around here, good insulation, heat pump driving underfloor heating and ceiling cooling, heat-recovery ventilation, so it's comfortable all year around. The last 2 years had summers in the high 30s so this should only be a bit higher.
@imre also underfloor cooling with heatpump right?
how does ceiling cooling work?
it's like underfloor heating, the pipes run in the (concrete) ceiling
it's more comfortable to heat from the floor and cool from the ceiling
right
sounds like a great house. any photos?
A/C on since Tuesday in my case, very grateful to have these units
Aye, good point that it's not just us hoomans who are suffering in the heat!
