let me know when you need help

borkdude 2026-06-12T10:05:23.941949Z

you're good at installing airco?

mpenet 2026-06-12T10:07:43.854829Z

fun fact, where I live (Geneva) it's forbidden to have AC in a flat/house unless there's a medical reason or something

mpenet 2026-06-12T10:08:02.988579Z

you can if it's a business tho. unfair

borkdude 2026-06-12T10:08:39.717389Z

why do they have this rule? we do have regulations, but only for noise. I'm ordering a special case around the outside unit to reduce noise (which is more expensive than the bare airco setup)

mpenet 2026-06-12T10:09:08.806759Z

environmental laws

borkdude 2026-06-12T10:09:16.841919Z

if it gets beyond 24 degrees C permanently here, my brain shuts down, I just can't. And we can also use it for heating in the winter. When gas prices go up, we have backup

mpenet 2026-06-12T10:09:19.918089Z

I guess energy usage & co

borkdude 2026-06-12T10:09:41.136079Z

airco warming is pretty energy efficient and a way to save on gas

borkdude 2026-06-12T10:09:50.447449Z

it's basically the same mechanism as a heat pump

mpenet 2026-06-12T10:10:19.831779Z

I guess it's likely historical

mpenet 2026-06-12T10:10:53.472289Z

yeah air-air pump are dual usage

mpenet 2026-06-12T10:10:59.327059Z

and pretty efficient

borkdude 2026-06-12T10:11:23.039389Z

our apartment is very well insulated, once the heat gets in, it takes a long time to get out. houses in NL are not built for heat historically

protecting them from the wind might be the trickiest thing (we have a similar problem as we are near the sea and unlucky with how the buildings around us are placed)

Miguel Munoz 2026-06-12T12:29:30.370329Z

I'm familiar with the structural calculation

simongray 2026-06-12T13:00:07.874959Z

So far it's gone surprisingly well. I was expecting much worse with how windy it is here (we're in the windiest part of an already windy city). The only really tricky weather is, I find, the combination of sun and wind, which tends to really dry out some of the plants quickly.

2026-06-12T13:00:49.679369Z

yeah, drying out the plants (and occasionally snapping the stems) is the problem

2026-06-12T13:00:58.547549Z

we're sunny as well (for Scotland)
