Madainn mhath mo chairdean! ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ Anyone else not enjoying a Bank Holiday and instead working..? My colleagues in Oslo are having one, so I assume that's a Norwegian thing, and England and Wales are "in"... Is this a day that EVERYONE gets..? I am working it as my employer allows me to abjure group-think and have the time off when it is more useful to me, for which I thank them ๐ , but is this a Bank / National / Official holiday for EVERYBODY, I am not sure..? (I know that I could Google it, I am "making conversation")
In The Netherlands we have a national day off, second day of Pentecost. But not every country. So.. should I publish the David Nolen talk at Babashka conf 2026 or not today... my plan was to publish it on a work day but this is an edge case.
I'm working today, partly b/c everyone is off so I get some peace and quiet to get things done
(tho I've been a bit sniped by some admin)

Yeah the whole take your bank holidays when you want thing is super common in tech in Scotland (at least edinburgh). But, it's great but also kinda sucks because you don't have a shared holiday with friends. Being forced to all have a long weekend always lead to more social stuff happening I found
you could always take the day on the bank holiday. Most everyone at MC is actually taking today off (which is why I'm working. I'm blissfully uninterrupted)
That's my latest theory anyway.
Today is Memorial Day here -- lots of flags and solemn reminders to "honor the fallen". So I'm working. So many places are closed that it's not worth leaving the house ๐
I appreciate Memorial Day, but I generally dislike Monday holidays. They mess up my week, so I work the Monday and take some other Friday off.
Yeah, we're very flexible at work with holidays -- partly because the team are from all different cultures and religions so there isn't a lot of overlap on those high days -- and I rarely take the national holidays off. I think I have about 250 hours banked at the moment tho'... we were supposed to be doing two separate weeks in the UK (May and July) but neither of those are happening, so I'll have to figure out what else to use my PTO for ๐
