Well I think I have a talk outlined from my “Falling in Love with Clojure Again” post but it’s really around the sense of community around a language and how that doesn’t feel real in Java/Python/Go circles.
I'm curious what you mean here as the LJC and London Python Dojo were massive influences on London Clojurians. (that and Thoughtworks meetups in general). The crews around LJC and LPD were essential in my understanding of how to do community organising around a programming language.
I’m glad you put it like that because I knew there’d be an issue with my thinking. Perhaps it’s just places like this and I’m too landlocked from working from home all the time. I dunno.
But saying that, I’ve never felt part of a thing even when editing JDJ years ago, it never felt community like, just corporate. Perhaps location is everything.
I've found many other Java and python communities to be a bit impersonal. LJC and the London Python Dojo were reactions to that I think it is really dependent upon the people doing it.
London did have the advantages of lots of free places to meet (Thoughtworks, uSwitch, but mostly SkillsMatter)
I need to do talks again because i have no stickers at all.
I'll come and heckle. For free:joy:
I'd love to see this talk at EuroClojure 2027. I'll bring some stickers for you!
