moin moin y'all ☕ glad the sun peeked out from behind the clouds today
Morning!
morning! Grey sky and drizzle here, unfortunately. We got some vitamin D yesterday!
Over the last few months, I learned that I need a hard task and some well defined tasks to thrive. Only hard task → I'm unable to put in a day's work; I can only keep at it for a few hours. Only easy tasks → I get bored and loose motivation.
I, too, like to, at my own pace, switch between tasks of differing nature. Sometimes, I need to stay focused for a loooong time. At other times, I hop between many small tasks during a day. And sometimes it makes sense to hop off of a long task for a breath of fresh air 🐸
Good morning 🙂
Good morning
morning
what password manager would you suggest for a non-technical user?
For people who will keep on writing down their passwords, this is an interesting analog answer: https://passwordbook.org Print them a book. (yes, this is bad. It is arguably better than what most non-technical people have)
if on apple stuff: strongbox is quite nice
if you are on apple: I migrated from 1password to Dropbox passwords now to Apple passwords
basically just to avoid another subscription. if they don't mind a subcription, 1password is probably best, but Apple passwords is good enough for me
strongbox = you own the password store. I wouldn't rely on apple password alone
ex: I can have the .db file on dropbox/icloud/google drive
(all 3)
ah it's based on keepass. I've seen that recently from someone who was using https://keepassxc.org/
if apple decides to shutdown your account, it gets nasty
yeah
I don't mind storing my passwords with apple because I can easily export the passwords and dump them in an encrypted container
it's easy to move from it if needed
does keepass / strongbox also support those 6 digit numbers for 2FA? and passkeys?
yes
it's a one time buy also
if you choose to go that route
the only downside, it's no longer open-source (it used to be)
I think I would go keepassxc if I cared enough about that (I don't)
you can probably use both if you need to on the same .db?
yes you can
I just read that if you disable icloud on your machine, you can still fully use apple passwords so no worries here
just syncing won't work, but still able to migrate
the worst case scenario is if somebody steals your laptop unlocked I guess
(I don't know if there's an extra layer of security with Password, never used it)
then you still need to fill in your laptop password to use it
ah
and you can probably lock it using Findme or whatever they call it
Find http://My.app
My wife and I are both happy users of Bitwarden. She definitely counts as non-technical. 😁
thx all!
