Good codeberg morning
Bye bye Github, your new AI overlords repel me.
Inspired by https://ziglang.org/news/migrating-from-github-to-codeberg/
I'm there too, tho I need to move off of github properly https://codeberg.org/otfrom
I think the blocker for me is that I need private repos for open source client work. The code is under Eclipse, but the client chooses whether or not to re-distribute not us
it probably means I need to spin up my own forgejo somewhere (or find a coop that will host it for me)
it's OK to host them there https://docs.codeberg.org/getting-started/faq/#how-about-private-repositories%3F
or maybe you are pushing their boundaries?
I'd be pushing their boundaries a bit, but there may be ways to make it fit in
it seems like they're open to discussion, so it's worth asking
it looks like it. I think they probably are the place to move to
tho something hosted in the UK might make things a bit easier for me given that the data is from English local authorities
good luck with the search and please spread the word when you find something ππΌ
I will
in the worst (best?) case I might have to start my own co-op for it
for a while https://sourcehut.org/ was a bit hot in the no-github space, what happened to it? lately I see most people mention codeberg
Itβs still good. I think they take a very strict approach to git which might not be to everyoneβs taste. The project has also migrated including Drew himself to Europe.
Morning
Morning!
Good morning! (better! morning)
I'm really happy I found an awesome location for #babashka-conf!
Is the location near the one of the dutch clojure days?
Where is it @borkdude?
but that doesn't have an address on it? (at least I haven't seen it
You're right. I found an address, but I'm not sure if it's the conference location or if it's some contact address. I'll leave this one to the Dutch-speaking organizers.
I looked at the locations tab... and there are quite a few in Amsterdam... so hence my question.
Check the meetup page, it should say OBA Oosterdok. When you click on details it says Forumzaal, 6th floor
Itβs the main public library building in Amsterdam, very nice
hadn't seen that yet
great location!! and near the station, so even better π
here is a 3d view of the room: https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=woPwxWoL6d3
care to spoil?
I'm so glad somebody decided to sponsor! π€
Oh, I maybe misunderstood β that was the planned location all along, right?
I found it yesterday
and today it was confirmed
Right, space for 90 now! That's a bit more than last time I read about the location.
it's going to cost some extra money but I already have one sponsor from the community for 500. the space + catering costs roughly 1600 but I'll find more sponsors :) if your company is open to sponsoring a part of this, feel free to reach out. the perk is that you will be mentioned as a sponsor on the website and at the conf
first I had a location that advertised 60 but when I booked it, they said 48. that was going to be crammy so I'm just glad I found something way better
I can ask around β but working for the government can be stringy sometimes. Sure, we can host a meetup! Sorry, buying beers is not okay. Maybe some other Norwegian companies are interested.
oh don't worry about it :)
are you a bunch of freelancers btw?
Nope, regular employees π
of the government?
Yes
are you working with cjohansen and magnus as well or do I misremember?
I am, in addition to @sardtok, @smestad and @mathias.iversen487. Six Clojure devs!
wow, that's great
It's very cozy in our little room at work! We're mostly there in person, with some exceptions.
is this all in Oslo?
Yes
Contractors were use extensively in the Food Safety Authority up untill about five years ago, when it was concluded that was a bad idea. After the people who had built things left, nobody knew how to work on the code. Now we're trying to make decisions that make sense in the long term. That means keeping the same developers around.
Maybe Oslo should host the next EuroClojure then. It seems to be a vibrant Clojure dev city now ;)
We do get regular activity around lunches and the occational meetup! @daslu is actually coming to Oslo to teach us about data science next week.
Downside of doing it in Oslo: everything is expensive! Especially food and drinks, compared to most other places in Europe.
true
Both @borkdude and I were recently in the US. That place isnβt exactly cheap.
that's true as well
With the current exchange rates Norwegian prices aren't that horrific.
Hello, I'm going to babashka-conf and Dutch Clojure Days from Berlin next year. Inspired by similar threads for the conj, I'm wondering if some people would be up to look for shared accommodation, to save some money, but more importantly, to be with like minded people outside the conference. We could hop on a call to talk about it as well.
Great to see you there! I don't know your real name, but have you registered yet for bb-conf? Just double-checking since places are limited :)
There's also #babashka-conf and #clojuredays (although this channel is probably better populated, just naming these channels for more options)
Likewise! Yes, got my registrations in a bit over a week ago when more spots were available. Thanks for asking. Yes I thought I ask slowly through the various channels until some people might be interested.
I will be going to both events from Stuttgart, but I have yet to decide for how long I will go and where I will stay. Maybe I will combine it with a small trip to Amsterdam and other places in the Netherlands.
Hi Ludger π great to hear from you. And vacation in the Netherlands is a lovely idea!
I'm "Adrian | Berlin" in the scicloj calls, so we shared quite some time there in the online conferences this year. π
Yes, I remember and it was a good time. π
