TIL about ident? . I was looking for a predicate called named? and didn’t find one, but apparently this one exists which is basically that…?

Morning! First strength training with weights in a long time yesterday. Today, I've got tender arms and legs. Not tender in abs / back, through: so next time I'm doing deadlifts too. I find motivation for strength training a weird thing. I like the feeling of having used my muscles. But I don't generally like doing the same thing over and over, following the same program week after week. But progress requires consistency.

New session yesterday. Bench press and deadifts, plus warmup and smaller stuff. The good feeling of tenderness continues. The reason I stopped lifting heavy weights last time was boredom. "just follow this program" didn't motivate me. I've maybe found something that works better: "after this session, my back should feel tired".

I took quite a few months off lifting this year to focus on a sport, and wow...it took a solid two to four weeks back in the gym to feel normal in those movements again. Not "lifting the same weights", just "my body moves and feels like my body".

Spot on! My squat was just weird. I've never been super flexible, but this time had real trouble getting at least a little deep. In my case I need to work weight mass back up to what I'm used to too!

Only one way to make a diamond: time and pressure. It's a bit like working on a large system, results emerge after many many hours of unseen and unglorious toil.

The way you put it it really makes sense across both computer systems and human systems. I like that formulation, and that way of thinking of it!

Confession: I shamelessly stole that line from "The Shawshank Redemption"... don't tell 🤫

Huh. I saw it many years ago and loved it, but never picked up on that quote. Perhaps it's time for a rewatch!

It was about the escape tunnel. Took him 20 years to dig with a tiny pickaxe.
