Good morning
What a view ๐ค
beautiful.
your home or office perhaps? I'd love to have that view as a backdrop when working โฆ
lol 29th floor of the hotel
In Sofia
That makes more sense, haha ๐
I got Hotel-y vibes from the decor, I think
The same bar at night
Not the perfect ergonomics for board games, but we'd pull through

Morning
Saw this on the orange site this morning: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45283887. Seems like slack did a rug pull for the non-profit in question (https://skyfall.dev/posts/slack). I feel it's only a matter of time when slack do it for Clojurians.
Maybe it's time to leave Clojurians slack behind and move to Zulip
itโll happen if we get rug-pulled, but you canโt move that many people without an imminent threat
I would prefer IRC
I haven't used IRC since ... well I've no idea, but are there modern clients with notifications and support for rich content?
notifications etc for sure, but I see it as a bonus that it doesn't support "rich" content tbh
its just text
@hkjels The IRC community still exists but it is very small by comparison. Zulip is the second-largest active community at this point.
Since we are sponsored by Salesforce, rather than on any special deal, the "worst" they would likely do to us is simply withdraw sponsorship and leave us back on the free plan that we used for years before we got sponsored. So we'd lose files and history, but the community would remain.
Every time this comes up, I suggest -- as an Admin -- that folks migrate to Zulip. Some subcommunities here already have moved. Most folks stay because they prefer Slack.
Ohh. I thought that was closed years ago. spinning up erc ๐
@hkjels If it helps:
(!1997)-> cat ~/.ircrc
join #clojure
ignore * CRAP
(2025-09-18.15:23:50)-(~/oss/seancorfield.github.io/public)
(!1998)-> env|fgrep IRC
IRCNICK=<**my nickname**>
IRCSERVER=irc.libera.chatNote that it moved to Libera.

Good morning
Morning! โค๏ธ ๐ง๏ธ
Good morning!
Our IT department has the worst policy: new version of Mac OS is out? Well, you get 5 days to update it yourself or we will enforce it remotely. For security updates that is a fine policy, but they donโt distinguish between those and major updates, and a new Mac release is always so buggy in the beginningโฆ
When I worked on a university once, I bought my own laptop to bypass all this nonsense
Interesting - the general corporate policies are way more conservative than that - we always had wait for X.1 when X.0 is released
Yeah, I've never experienced it anywhere else either. They are always trying to reduce the amount of versions of software that they support, I think that's the idea. They also constantly threaten to phase out all usage of Macs, but a substantial minority of the researchers here prefer Mac so I don't see that happening ever. They also insist that the only version of Linux in use on university computers is Redhat Enterprise Linux.
