Another week, another hand-written excel sheet to be integrated into our existing dataset. I have come to expect these things to be full of errors, of course, but this is an area where the REPL and the exploratory style of programming really shines. I load the dataset using Docjure (whose developer @martin303 I actually run into all the time… our children are in the same kindergarten) and then I find all the little typos and other things and write a bit of code to correct for that before importing it into our knowledge graph. It’s a pretty damn smooth process, if I must say so myself. I even find myself enjoying finding all the little errors (and emailing my coworkers about them)!

The REPL really shines in those small-corrections workflows. I have a similar task here with extracting text from PDFs and massaging it into EDN. So smooth.

Ah, I once did a project like that too. Eventually we wrote a data validation UI where the user could first upload the Excel sheet, and got a list of errors before they sent it to us to integrate. All built using Clojure and docjure in 2013/2014 :)

sounds like Metri @U04V15CAJ ?

I worked on that as well.. but never the Excel validation part.

madainn mhath :flag-scotland: I've been absent due to a wee duel with COVID - still testing positive, but well enough to work, so here I am back online... Don't get it (again) is my recommendation. Even 4 vaccinations in this kicked my ass worse than seasonal flu. Be careful out there kids and kittens!
