To me it's a lot easier to support the thesis that they succeeded than to argue the opposite.

Architecture should be independent of implementation. Maybe it’s not in software.

Considering there are many banks happy to use Spring I think you’d be hard pushed to find someone moaning about it, so many use it and earn from it.

As for Rails….. plenty 🙂

I was big into Spring back in the day. I loved it, it made badly designed and hard to use APIs easy to use. Something we don't need at all in Clojure. Which is rather glorious!

I have a vague recollection of someone like Kevlin Henny talking about how grouping your code by model, view and controller is for the framework developer's convenience and it might be better if you tried to organise your software by feature first ... but in 15 seconds of googling I couldn't find a link for you ...

Another angle that I would like to consider is that developers become architects and don’t have a way to express architectural outside of Spring or Rails
