morning
Good morning đ
Kids are amazing. Had to pick up kid from school yesterday morning, had a temperature. He was okay at home, then crashed about dinner time - slept all the way through until this morning. Now he's 100% back to himself and dancing around the place!
That really is awesome đŞ
hahahaha
I canât count the number of times that my son has fallen directly on his head, cried violently for 10 seconds, then moved on
I used to think that the âkids are resilientâ referred more to their state of mind, like them being too busy to be sorry for themselves. It might also be that, but also, their bodies certainly are more rubbery, Iâve learned recently. The knees (knee caps) arenât fully developed until theyâre 6 months or so? And some cranial structures also remain malleable for quite some time.

It really is interesting!
@U4P4NREBY wait⌠Cartoon Physics?!
Handling the new cargo bike went slightly better this morning, but I guess I need to get used to used to a new reality of comments from mildly road-raging regular riders stuck behind my slow and careful movements⌠:man-shrugging: And it probably wasnât the best idea to take it ~12 km across the centre of Copenhagen on its maiden voyage while itâs getting dark outside⌠I honestly had a little trouble falling asleep last night because it was so scary đ
đŽ Iâve also thought the traffic in Copenhagen scary/agitating at times, even on a normal bike with no impediments
Every time I witness people act irrational or dumb in traffic, I get a bit agitated. Not angry, necessarily, more like a general heightened state of anxiety. Even if what they did didnât impact me in any way. I think Iâm a bit âsensitiveâ.
Iâm so used to it, so I probably donât notice. On a regular bike I always know exactly how much space I have/need and I know my own reaction time well. It is totally different on these massive bikes.
yeah, some idiot tried to pass me yesterday and clearly didnât have any room to do so, so he nearly crashed into parked car instead. This was in Frederiksberg on Gammel Kongevej, which is probably the most narrow bikelane in the city. Moron.
hahaha yeah, thatâs not my favourite lane, either
Think Iâve chosen Frederiksberg AllĂŠ as an alternative at times, decently wide, relaxed and picturesque
Bike traffic CPH scared me. People will yell at you in rush hour when you go to slow, which is may less than 20km/h đ Or they're just yelling at those slow tourists.
"People generally yell" - would be very german.
I yell at people if they blatantly break the rules in some manner that makes life more dangerous for me or other people, but otherwise I just ring the bell if people are in my way
But in general I was impressed by the speed of the average commuter in Kopenhagen. In my town I'm scared by the average speed of the seniors on their e-bikes which apparently have no brakes :see:
I live along a long bike road and people go fast here due to the electrification of bikes. Sometimes it's really confusing how fast someone approaches when you want to cross
because grandma is pedalling like sheâs going 5km/hour, but her assist is maxed out
Thanks to home office I only need to leave my home for shopping, but as a family of 6 it's hardly doable by bike. This is why I have a huge bus đ đ
There's people going 25 or faster here but not wearing helmets. NL people aren't used to wear helmets on bikes and very stubborn about it
Uuuuh, that's nasty.
ER surgeons like those people.
thankfully, helmet usage is going way up in Copenhagen along with faster riding. More than half are wearing them now.
Nice. I think in germany the vast majority of people wear helmets nowadays. Maybe also because in primary school we do bike education, including tests on these "fake road" practice areas. The training is done by the local police and helmets are mandatory.
Students even get graded on that.
On the other hand, more teenagers smoke, since recent years. Choose your poison, I guess.
@U04V15CAJ that two-way lane is chefâs kiss
NL is always mentioned as the role model for bike friendly cities. And then, after all, nothing is done in germany :-p
Itâs done on a national level in NL according to the same set of evolved standards. Other countries plan it much more locally and arenât as long-term about it. NL is showing the way forward, but no one is really listening.
Copenhagen has always been a bike city, but the infrastructure only started being built for it in the 70s and onwards due to the oil crisis
the rest of the country generally lags behind Copenhagen and Copenhagen lags behind NL
The rural roads in Denmark are not even car friendly according to my experience :rolling_on_the_floor_laughing:
True that. There's only one road leaving my housing area, and it has no bike path or even pedestrian path, and there's a raised separator in the middle of the two car lanes so cars can't even cross lanes to pass bikes, they have to stay behind bikers, which is really menacing for the biker
So so dumb
I hope they change it when they add a 1000 (or whatever) people's worth of housing more to the area in the coming years
I would say most of Aarhus is pretty well suited for biking as well as Copenhagen. đ
How do you deal with going up and down ramps, @U0522J5HN? Itâs so difficult to do at an angle. Does it get better?
Iâm riding a https://www.larryvsharry.com/, so two-wheeler like the Urban Arrow, so I donât really have the same issue there.
But Iâm guessing it will become second nature pretty quickly for you. Your muscle memory will handle the angles for you.
You got me jealous with all this discussion about bike lanes. In Athens thereâs hardly any bike lanes and the ones created are empty because theyâre disconnected from each other.
Ah, that sucks. Not very conducive towards getting more people on bikes.
Good morning!
