where is that?

vijaykiran08:12:05

Southern Poland - almost near the border between PL and CZ

reefersleep08:12:24

Very lovely view

reefersleep08:12:31

Is that from your home?

vijaykiran09:12:41

Temporary home - I’m staying here for a few weeks 🙂

reefersleep09:12:22

Very nice 😎

simongray08:12:06

Morning! I thought ChatGPT would be a booster for my productivity, but instead it seems to completely kill it. 😃

thomas09:12:34

Working as designed!!!

simongray10:12:49

Same. I start by wanting to figure out how to solve some memory-related issue when running a JAR in a Docker container, but somehow end up simulating conversations between long dead linguists and sci-fi characters on the surface of an alien planet.

😂 2
robert-stuttaford10:12:46

simulating, or observing for the first time? how do you know it wasn't actually really happening on that planet?

thomas10:12:51

Actually... I think this is how the machines are going to take over... they distract us to death and in the mean time...... 💥

I swear GPT and its ilk is the first wave of Matrix-like coma-inducement for humankind to keep us docile so Big Tech can sell us stuff in our dreams 😞

The season has started :)

otfrom10:12:11

mmm.... downhill on the fatbike

slipset10:12:29

Take your bike up to Braemar. Shouldn’t be too far?

thomas10:12:37

where is this?

slipset10:12:21

Lifts are still closed, but it’s possible to skin up and get something that feels like freshies on the way down.

thomas10:12:37

ok, just booked my ticket... ✈️

thomas10:12:41

see you in 5.

thomas10:12:10

and I can't even sky.... 😂

reefersleep11:12:17

We had snowfall today, but it’s already wet

slipset11:12:59

Not really powder, it’s all artificial snow, but it felt really nice. And also, just being out and getting some sun this time of year.

reefersleep11:12:02

Gonna go out and try to enjoy it anyway. No skiing here, though 😄

reefersleep11:12:23

Oh! I didn’t know that was a thing!

reefersleep11:12:20

I feel like something’s lost in translation, or you’re pulling my leg. Artificial snow? All that, just for you? 😄

slipset11:12:12

No, no, it’s man-made snow in contrast to the snow that falls from the skies. You can see the snow-cannons producing snow in the pictures.

reefersleep11:12:01

Ah! Didn’t see that. Shows my experience with skiing.

reefersleep11:12:29

I think I’ll go outside for a bit and see how the heaven-made snow is today 🙂

reefersleep11:12:07

It doesn’t look heavenly, but maybe I’ll be surprised.

pithyless11:12:21

#whitelines

thomas12:12:54

still looks good, even though the snow is "fake"

reefersleep12:12:53

Report: Certainly not powder, but worked perfectly for toddler sledding 🧸🛷

reefersleep12:12:37

First sled ride!

simongray12:12:38

He’s looking more and more like you

reefersleep13:12:30

Happy to hear it ❤️ I can’t see it 🤓

robert-stuttaford12:12:31

he looks so pleased 😂

reefersleep13:12:45

It was like that most of the time! Periodically, I would ask, “Are you having fun? 😄” and he would answer “Yes 😐

lemontea09:12:15

outdoor activities’ the right direction… whatever you do, make sure you don’t imitate one of those meme where the parents gives a graduate text in pure math to the baby to read (or that infamous book “Quantum Mechanics for babies”) lol

reefersleep09:12:20

We try to take him outside at least once a day. He’s an avid car-looker, so he enjoys the many parked and parking cars we have around here.

reefersleep09:12:50

And generally looking at things. He’s not really much of a runner-arounder, more like a stand-and-contemplater.

lemontea09:12:54

oh cars, that’s interesting…

lemontea09:12:23

(resist the urge to mention the parents who get his child to become an expert in race car by the age of 5 or 6)

reefersleep09:12:14

Yeah, he doesn’t get it from us! I think it originated from a fascination with the wheels. His favourite relaxing stim is to lie on the floor and push his toy crocodile sloooowly directly past his face.

☺️ 1
reefersleep09:12:30

I’ve no clue whether it’ll carry on into later in life, or if he’ll turn to maths 😛

lemontea09:12:09

alas, that is not for us to decide… in the meantime, enjoy and bask in the cuteness with the baby and the wheeeeel

👶 2
lemontea09:12:47

and, in childhood, free-play like these are priceless

reefersleep09:12:18

It can actually be hard to tell from his facial expressions whether he’s enjoying whatever we’re doing, but from his interest in going outside (and staying outside!), I assume that he loves it.

reefersleep09:12:36

We’re thinking he might be on the spectrum somewhere, on a light end.

lemontea09:12:37

oh, not sure if this applies: if there’s an imaginary thought bubble, he could be thinking “my dad think he’s taking me out to exercise. Well, actually, I am taking him out to exercise”

reefersleep09:12:33

Well, it works. I’ve never been as much outside as I am currently. And in terrible weather, too.

😂 1
lemontea09:12:26

it works then lol

lemontea10:12:57

for the “spectrum” thing: everyone’s different (that’s why it’s called “spectrum” in the first place), but one possible effect is that he may want to do socialization slightly differently from normal people. Eg. compensate for (nonverbal) social cue awareness by adopting a more explicit communication style

lemontea10:12:28

(that advise may be more applicable for adult… for baby, I’ve no idea 👽)

reefersleep10:12:05

I can empathise with that. I have some verbal communication difficulties myself; not understanding social cues, but for spoken language, it’s like I just comprehend what’s said at a slower rate than most people, especially when multiple people are speaking. Curiously, I don’t observe anything like that with my son, not for verbal or nonverbal communication. He’s been late to start speaking, and he still is not saying fully formed words, but he’s been eagerly baby signing to compensate, and he seems to be generally very conscious about what we’re saying, also when not speaking directly to him.
