I finally took out an SLR to get these pics. I'm getting an iPhone 14 Pro next month so it will be interesting to compare.

Light is amazing today

I took our Sony alpha system camera out of the box for the first time since our last vacation in 2020. The iPhone makes stunning pictures, especially in the dark, I‘d not be able to match this myself. But as soon as you want to do anything with focus, it falls flat, because you see that the focus is AI generated and uncanny

This is made with an iPhone for example, with a stabilized 3s exposure out of my hand.

This was done with the Alpha, with a focus on the house and a blurry foreground, don‘t think it would be possible with an iPhone (yet?)

While this is an older photo my wife took in the iPhones „portrait“ mode, where the phone just added a blur around me to add perceived depth.

This was with a telephoto lens. That’s the next difficult gap.

The iPhone camera is pretty amazing when everything is in focus. I snapped this one morning on my iPhone 11 and the way it captured the light haze around the runner and the specularity of the concrete and asphalt blew my mind. Morning light goes a long way for getting nice contrast as well ;)
