morning!
Good morning! I also like trees :) @raymcdermott, my photography skills are not as refined as yours. Might I ask for some feedback? Anything I'm doing well? Anywhere I have some room for improvement? I don't feel like I'm great at photography, but I'd like to improve.
I really don't feel qualified to give advice. I'm still learning about what makes a good photo. I'm working a lot from vibes right now and I usually take 5-10 shots on a morning or evening walk and most of them are garbage. I try to go for defined subjects or overall mood. Mist helps a lot in woodland or some interesting tree shapes. Reflections are nice as in your first shot. I like the half sun of the second shot. I often use filters from the phone to make adjustments to the tone of the shot too. Watching pro photographers talk about their process on youtube has been really helpful to me. Nigel Danson is a fave of mine as he is quite a "painty" photographer.
That's amazing, thank you! I can try working with reflections, that sounds interesting. I'll check out Nigel Danson.
Enjoying this video now, they are talking about digital post processing. It kind of surprises me to hear them say > Raw files were never meant to be the final product > I've always thought of filters as cheating. I might have been wrong. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nEasBZB35FU
Now you got me watching photography videos wondering how "photography composition" compares to "rich hickey composition":thinking_face::thinking_face:
i've noticed Ray makes good use of backlighting - sun between the subject and him, to create depth / mood / atmosphere
Good point. I don't see much depth in my own pictures above.
I think I could benefit from more depth in my own pictures.
But it was a bit later in the day. But the clouds and the light are gifts from nature. It feels like cheating.
I walk the dog on the same walk every day and I find something new every day. The familiar often unveils itself as a reward for your attention.
