morning
Good morning!
moorning
A fat spider lives outside my home office window. Occasionally, I see an unfortunate insect hit the web and the spider shoot out to cradle and swaddle the poor victim in silk threads. The spider’s getting bigger every day. It’s fascinating to be able to see up close.
Morning! We have a little spider-situation here in southern Germany, due to climate change this little fella is now living here, and this year their numbers exploded: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoropsis_spinimana
But they also have been seen near the northern coast already, so I guess they are here to stay.
I don’t mind the spiders we have that much. The webs are bit annoying inside and outside the house, but I like that they eat other insects 🙂
I don’t mind them too much, either. When we had one of those in the flat for the first time we were a little uneasy, because they are way larger than anything we are used to, here. But although they can penetrate skin with their fangs, they are not very poisonous. Reportedly it feels like you are stung by a bee.
I’m surprised they can penetrate skin - 1,5 cm is still small, compared to the hellspawn that they get in Australia and elsewhere
Nature in Denmark is generally, still, pretty benign, I feel 🙂
Comparatively.
My most recent fear is myself or family members getting lyme disease from ticks, which, sadly, are becoming more and more widespread, AFAIK
I had one tick transfer it to me, but we caught it early and I received antibiotics soon enough – as far as we know. I understood that the bacteria can lay dormant for some time, so there is always that. Otherwise there is not much that can harm us here, too. Maybe rabies or wild boars
I hope your treatment was sufficient!
Or that you get no symptoms, if it’s there.
Blood tests said so, and I trust that
great 🙂
I guess there’s some risk, and Germany is huge, so there must be some statistic for “number of boar-related injuries per year”
But I guess it’s not something you’re generally worried about?
I don’t live in fear of the boars, no 😄 They are usually shy, but in the season when there are piglets, it’s good to be aware and keep the distance.
I struggle to name a big animal in Denmark that I would fear being attacked by, whatever the season. But if enough of your boars visit, they’ll probably head to the top of the list 🙂
Wasn’t there an anti-boar-fence on the border, last year? 😅
Ah, there it is
Yes, and I think a lot of people got a good schadenfreudisch laugh out of how poorly it was made and worked… And a good grumble out of the thought of taxpaying money that went towards the project.
Don’t know if they improved it since.
If you ever feel like the software you’re making is shoddy, go try let your son play minecraft online via his microsoft family account.
speaking of which, what is the difference between “toy” program/library vs “production strength”? Or is the line sometimes more blurry than we’d like to admit?
@U04V5VAUN I actually have this problem rn (allowing my kid to play minecraft online), was there some trick to it?
Not really. but microsoft won’t let me log in right now. But basically, I had to go into my Family thing on my microsoft account, look at my sons properties and then at the bottom of that page, click on some xbox setting, from there, there was IIRC another family thing (since http://live.com and http://xbox.com are two different accounts) where I again could find my son, but now under his gamer nick, and there I could choose allow online gaming after choosing the middle tab (there are three)
thank you, this is useful info!!!
