I happen to know the answer because this has bitten me more than once. :or influences the destructured bindings, but doesn't change the input map.

In lambdaisland/gaiwan code we strongly discourage "keyword arguments". Just pass in an actual map. That extra pair of curlies is not going to kill you. It's nice and clear and explicit and composable.
