> <rant> Creating a monoculture is stifling in the long term, yet developers walk right in to it because of convenience. At some point the issue with Cloudflare won’t just be the centralisation itself (like now), it will be rent-seeking behaviour due to its eventual monopoly. </rant>
yes, agree very much. At my old job, we were making a web app that was to be used by 600 people + a bit of simple machine learning (decision tree) and it cost us 1 million Danish kroner (so 135K EURO) a month in AWS expenses to keep the system running while it was being developed… it wasn’t even being used by those 600 people. Completely ridiculous.
In related news, I have been reading up on the IndieWeb and its associated standards and I think I will try to implement some of them in Clojure. They’re just simple data exchanges, so Clojure seems like an obvious choice.
Do I already follow you on Mastodon? [email protected]
Likely not. I only just created a profile ~2 days ago: [email protected] (following you now)
I’m considering making an over-engineered, protocol-heavy web identity/blogging platform.
not public yet… 🙂 I will implement my own blog first and work out the kinks, but I am reusing some ideas I used in a different project which worked well there and I think they will work well here too.
for now I’m testing things out, e.g. web sign-in https://simon.grays.blog
Still not sure whether simon.grays.place or http://simon.grays.blog is the better domain.
Morning... My Seasonal Affect Disorder kicked in this afternoon... shorter days and all that.
Morning! Here's what happens when I spend too much time obsessing over the seasonal variation of day lengths 😛 : https://vvvvalvalval.github.io/posts/2019-12-03-inferring-earth-tilt-from-day-lengths.html#Physical-Model
