any recommends for a ER diagramming tool?

For general free-hand diagrams, I like the http://draw.io. Or is it called http://diagrams.net now? I use the desktop app.

I like text -> diagrams, primarily via PlantUML, if it is not too limited for my needs.

GitHub just added support for mermaid, I believe.
