Good Morning!

God morgen !

pez10:01:20

Bon matin!

borkdude10:01:19

you can now clean your namespaces via clojure-lsp from a babashka script!

(ns clojure-lsp
  (:require
   [babashka.pods :as pods]))

(pods/load-pod 'com.github.clojure-lsp/clojure-lsp "2022.01.03-19.46.10")

(require '[clojure-lsp.api :as api])

directed acyclic graph right back at you

genRaiy11:01:13

are you the parent of me?

borkdude11:01:02

I cannot be the parent if you are the root 🥕

pez11:01:04

> are you the parent of me? 😂

slipset11:01:45

Morning or something

pez11:01:20

Here’s hoping it is good?

slipset11:01:38

Back from Spain, so both good and bad 🙂

pez11:01:32

Ah, yes. Missing tapas, I can imagine. 😃

genRaiy11:01:35

(or morning something)

genRaiy11:01:05

speak properly 🙂

pez11:01:07

Should be fairly easy to write a macro that corrects speech like that, no?

borkdude11:01:41

I think slipset's semantics wasn't (or x y) but x-ish. So we should probably write a protocol Morningish and extend it to whatever types.

genRaiy12:01:23

for me it's more like get where we can supply a default

borkdude12:01:10

(extend-type Morningish Object (greet [this] :good))

genRaiy12:01:12

💉 booster today. Feels weird when the rest of the world is still vaccine poor.

otfrom12:01:08

yeah, we really need the TRIPs waivers. There are something like 100 facilities that could produce vaccines but aren't b/c of IP protection (thx US/UK/EU/Switzerland)

genRaiy14:01:57

Yes totally ludicrous

borkdude12:01:13

A colleague of Barbara (my wife) who had been hiding at home since pretty much the start of the pandemic, almost never at the office, maybe one or two times in all this time, very very careful, was infected this week. It's amazing that you can get infected even when you're one of the most careful people. Twice vaccinated.

bcaccinolo12:01:50

Here in 🇫🇷 , one colleague triple vaccinated just caught the Omicron one.

borkdude12:01:08

Here :flag-nl: btw

thomas14:01:35

still, if they hadn't been vaccinated the symptoms could have been much worse.

genRaiy14:01:26

I'm gonna assume that we all know that vaccines don't prevent infection. If one person in the household goes out, all are at risk. As the vaccines reduce the effect of the virus - and thus the impact on the healthcare system - we will need to accept it as a standard risk.

genRaiy14:01:42

I also still love people who are not vaccinated. They have their reasons, many of which are explicable and I find all of the vitriol on those people to be too much.

borkdude15:01:36

Agree with all of the above

agile_geek15:01:36

As @U04V5V0V4 says vaccines don't prevent infection. Vaccination merely fires up your immune system to allow it to more effectively fight an infection. You can still get infected. The difference with Omicron seems to be that altho milder in effect it's more contagious. The previous strains were fought off so quickly/effectively that many vaccinated ppl didn't test as having the virus. I suspect the omicron variant duplicates so fast that it shows up for a few days while antibodies are being created in enough numbers to destroy it.

borkdude15:01:42

Yes, I didn't deny any of that. I was just amazed that it could happen with even the most careful people.

borkdude15:01:07

This woman has a disease and she was really careful to not get it by isolating herself more than anyone else I know

agile_geek15:01:20

The issue with the unvaccinated is that they give the virus more opportunities to duplicate and therefore more opportunity to mutate into a variant that evades the vaccine or is more lethal. That's not vitriol, it's fact. I accept some have a medical reason not to take the vaccine but if that's the choice they make they can't complain if they are excluded from some activities or have restrictions that they have to conform too.

agile_geek16:01:20

Obviously in this case the woman in question took all precautions but sh*t happens

agile_geek16:01:09

In fact ppl not vaccinating because of misinformation are causing her greater risk of catching a more virulent strain

genRaiy16:01:14

Distinguishing misinformation from information is the curse that keeps on giving. Some people have fear of the drug companies, the medical profession and the government. All of these have some legitimacy even if I don't agree with them (all).

genRaiy16:01:33

Take as an example, the lab leak theory. I don't know what to believe - it's difficult to exclude the possibility that it happened. If it did, the motives would at least need to be discussed.

genRaiy17:01:21

Pharmaceutical companies are hoarding the IP of the vaccines which is :face_vomiting: and their motives (see Purdue et al) have not always been, to say the least, pure.

genRaiy17:01:46

Some marginalized communities are nervous about interacting with the medical profession. They have been experimented on in living memory.

genRaiy17:01:18

Poor / working class folks in the US are easily bankrupted by the "healthcare" system

bcaccinolo17:01:23

Our President (Macron) Views Unvaxxed As 'Non-Citizens'. It's really weird and scary imo.

💯 1
genRaiy17:01:36

obviously these arguments don't apply equally everywhere but we need to be tolerant of folks even if they are inadvertently causing harm

👍 1
genRaiy17:01:57

Yes, when Macron et al try to shame / exclude people it further drives in the wedge. The issue then becomes a political football rather than one which can be discussed rationally / compassionately.

genRaiy17:01:32

Trump put a lot of $$ into getting a vaccine. He was c*nt in general but that was good policy.

genRaiy17:01:32

And he keeps on making speeches trying to claim a win for creating the vaccine and being booed for even mentioning it :man-shrugging::skin-tone-3:

mdallastella17:01:42

The collateral problem of unvaccinated people is that they are more likely to end up in intensive cares and fill them. So the people who needs them (accidents, post-operation, etc...) can't get access.

mdallastella17:01:44

Here in Italy there are a lot of medics that talk about the big wave of not diagnosed tumor for the lack of proper treatments or screening in the next few years.

genRaiy17:01:40

I am all for persuading people to have the vaccine. I'm against wholesale stigmatization of the unvaccinated.

mdallastella17:01:40

Sure, not judging them, lots of people are scared and the media (social and not) don't help. I was just pointing out there's some impact on the life of other people with a decision like that.

genRaiy18:01:16

We can agree on that - as well as many other things no doubt 🙂

Mno10:01:14

I'm proud of how civil this remained. Really brings a tear to my eye.
